Mother/ Son dance

Although DH and I don't have any children, I do have a 16 year old son from my first marriage. What A Wonderful World has always been a favorite of ours. I like the version with Kenny G playing the sax. When he gets married (and not anytime soon--it's hard to believe I was only 2years older than him when his father and I married!!), we plan on dancing to that song.

"What a Wonderful World" has always been a favorite. "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion is beautiful. The perenial favorite "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Middler. There's a song called "My Son" by Brendan Shine, I've never heard it but have read the lyrics. I had planned to dance with my daddy and my mom, and DH with his mom, to "Thank You" by Natalie Merchant, but mom was gone and daddy uses a walker so no dancing. Plus I would have cried my eyes out!

This will not be helpful, but your question made me think of when my BFF got married (the first time). Her new MIL chose the song to dance with her son. His mom chose "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and it totally weirded out my BFF and me.

Some of the lyrics are:
The first time ever I kissed your mouth
And felt your heart beat close to mine
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command, my love
And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
And I knew our joy would fill the earth
And last till the end of time my love

That's a love song, a darned good one, but a love song. It's even been used in movies during love scenes! IMO it's not a mother/son song :scared: He was a momma's boy . . . probably one reason the marriage didn't survive :headache:

We aren't doing the mother/son dance but here are a couple of songs that I have thought of.

Mama (I think that is the title) by Boys to Men
The Perfect Fan by Backstreet Boys

If you want something Disney, Clay Aiken did a song called Proud of your Boy (originally from Alladin, but as cut for some reason)

Its beautiful.

My DF is dancing with his mom to "simple man" (the acoustic version) by Shinedown.

We are doing the father/daughter mother/son dance at the same time for time's sake really. I am using "Someone's waiting for you" from the Rescuers.

I went to a wedding last week, and the Mother/Son and Father/Daughter dance happened at the same time to...

Wait for it...

"Always Look on the Bright Side of Life". Yes, by Monty Python.

It was awesome.

I'm getting married July 7 and my mom and I will be dancing to "You'll Be in My Heart" from Tarzan. I'm having a Disney themed wedding and I wanted a Disney song to dance to with my mom. I ran the idea by my fiancee and she loved it. When her mom asked what song I'd be using, she got teary eyed, so I know it was a good choice. My mom wasn't sure what song I was talking about and then I played it for her. Judging by her reaction, I couldn't have picked a better song.

I wish DF and his Mom were close. That is what's making this hard. She's not happy about this wedding and will be a Drama Queen. So alot of songs I suggest are too emotional. I love the song you chose too sweet.

Yay another July wedding.

My DH and his mom have an odd relationship. He loves his mother but she was never really there for him or his siblings growing up... too busy being the good samaritan to everyone else in the community and not her own family... anyway, he wanted to do the dance with her just so he didn't have to hear her complain later on... so, he chose the Mark Schultz song, "When You Come Home". He used to travel on the road with a circus (don't ask) and the only thing she'd do is write letters to him... that was the only way to keep in touch. So, he figured it wasn't too emotional or sappy and it still ended up being an awkward dance for him... but it's over now...

I've also heard a lot of people suggest "My Wish" by Rascall Flatts. It's a great song and not too sappy... check it out. You can go on Amazon.com and hear clips of the songs.

Thank you Diane. I'm glad DF isnt the only one. He would actually rather dance with my mom. I will listen to that song. My Wish is to emotional for him he says.

My mother moved to Florida when my parents split up and had nothing whatsoever to do with me and my brother's upbringing. He had a hard time picking a song to dance to for the same reason. Too sappy, too much of the "you've always been there for me" type of lyrics...now, for the life of me I can't remember what song they used! I'll call him when I get home and find out.

I think DF is using "Do I Make You Proud" by Taylor Hicks. However, we told his mom is she wanted to have something else she could, but she hasn't told us anything yet. For my dad and I, it was a no brainer, "My Girl" by the Temptations. My daddy has sang that to me ever since I can remember, it is def. our song!

This thread will be good for me and DF. He is trying to figure out a song to dance with his mom too... I am dancing to Daddy's Little Girl by Al Martino... I love that song:love:

Laura, I'm sorry your DF and his mom don't have the greatest of relationships.:sad1:

I can't imagine DBf dancing with his mother to a mother/son song only because I think it'll be hard enough to get him dancing for OUR song :rotfl:

It may seem like an odd suggestion, but what about Circle of Life? Its kind of fitting as she brought him into this world and now he's starting a family of his own with you...
