Mother & Daughter's Plan for a Trip with a Champagne Tastes on a Beer Budget

A little bit of Disney in the Mountains

Last night my mom and me did a girls night out to Beauty and the Beast Musical.

What a great way to get us all excited for Disney!

The musical was in Breckenridge, CO and it had some local actors and then some actors that were brought up from the big Theaters in Denver for this special Labor Day Weekend musical.

I live down in between Denver and CO Springs, while my parents live right next to Breck in a place called Dillon, CO. If you never seen it before, it is gorgeous with Lake Dillon right next to it. So it is easy for us to get to Breck for fun nights out.

We started the night off doing happy hour in Breck and if you have not done that before it is fabulous. You get such great deals at all these expensive restaurants in Breck.

This is us at Briar Rose, a Breck institution. It is very expensive and very good. But during happy hour they have great deals.

1/2-priced Small Plates with melt in you mouth beef satay and huge prime rid sliders. No pics, sorry guys I got hungry!

Then next we headed to a cute place called Twist where they do comfort food with a twist :)

We had their $5 cocktails and $2 pork tacos that are to die for.

When we first arrived we saw the sets and were a little disappointed, I painted sets back in my high school plays and I thought we did a better job than they did. So I was thinking the musical was going to be about high school level because of that. This pic is after the play so you can see more of it.

But boy were we surprised! The moment Gaston and Belle starting singing I was blown away. They sounded fabulous and looked perfect!
We laughed and cried. They also had local kids in the play, playing the silver wear and wolves. They were really cute. One of the things I loved about it was a fun cross between a professional play with really, really good singing and then a small local play with all the local kids having a blast up there.

Since we were not allowed to take any pictures during the play I do not have any of those pics but here were the highlights.

One of my fav moments happened at the end when they were bowing and three little boys ran up on stage and gave Belle roses, soo cute!

Also they sold light up roses that they told all the kids to wave to help Beast transform back into a prince, so cute seeing all the kids waving them around.

Also when Mrs Potts sung the classic song "A tale as old as time" ooh my gosh, she sounded exactly like the movie, both of us started tearing up. Soo good.

At the end of the night some of the actors came back out in there costumes still. I got a picture with Gaston, he was so funny still hamming it up.

Look how tall he is!

Overall a great evening and now we are even more excited to go to Disney World!

Okay to help save on money we have been debating if we should pack some of our meals. We already planed on packing snacks but the original plan was just eating at quick services meals.

The good news is we will never have to pay for breakfast, since we will always be getting it free, so that is at least one meal we will never have to pay for.

Have any of you guys packed your meals before, how did it go? Was it worth it?

Here are the times we think we will pack lunch.

Sun:DTD: nothing
Mon: Epcot: nothing
Tues: MK: Pack Lunch
Wen: IOA: nothing (backpacks I hear are a pain here)
Thursday: DS: Pack Dinner
Fri: Beach: Pack Lunch
Sat: Beach/Floridian: Pack Dinner

So as you can see, we do not have many times that we are thinking of packing our meal. But if we assume each meal would of cost us $20 a person, that is a saving of about $160. I guess we should subtract buying our food to then make so lets say sandwich making materials and snacks will cost $60. So a overall savings of $100. Hey not bad, I can use that money for more sovereigns :thumbsup2

So we have a small backpack cooler, we plan on bringing that now. The cooler should stay fairly cool since we are going in Nov.

What are we going to pack?
Ham/Turkey Sandwiches
Little packets of mix nuts (good score of protein for energy in the park)
Welches Fruit Snacks

What do you guys like to pack?

I saw your PTR and just HAD to jump on! I'm from Colorado as well and went on my first mom-daughter trip last November and we're planning another one for April 2014! I also love Harry Potter and Star Wars sooo

I've definitely thought about packing food but never have actually followed through. I always get lazy. I don't see any reason you'd have a problem! It's only a 3 and a half hour flight so about 5 hours from DIA to hotel I'd guess. A turkey/ham sandwich should survive fine!

Also, for Epcot drinking, stop by La Cava de Tequila inside the Mexico pyramid. All the margaritas are delicious (not as good as The Rio, though ;) )
The avocado is my FAVORITE, though. It sounds weird but it's delicious. If you're a beer drinker, the selection is just not up to Colorado standards. Most of the "special" selections are available everywhere here. The Grey Goose slushie in France is also delicious!

Also really cool that you're a ski instructor! My aunt and uncle in-law are ski instructors in Aspen (great perks for us). My husband LOVES snowboarding, though. Goes about 60 days a year, mostly back-country, though!

Yeah, another Colorado person, there seems to only be a few of us.

It stinks that the beer is not as good as to what we are use to though, good to know about the slushy, sounds great.
Jealous about going to Aspen, it is just to far away from the front range, we have only been there once.
