I'm interested in hearing from other people who have taken mother/daughter trips. I'm taking DD7 for her birthday, and we're leaving the 3 boys and Daddy behind.

What did you do to make it special? Any good "girls only" ideas?

I just took my now 7 year old dd on a mommy and me trip in Feb. We did the BBB and lots of character meals. The best things that made it special were the normal things, but taking it really slow. Sitting down together eating ice cream. One night instead of a dinner we went to the Main Street Bakery and I let her eat dessert before dinner. She still talks about it! I got my own pixie dust at the BBB which she thought was great too. Storytime with Belle was awesome as was pixie hollow. My best memories were us finding a quiet spot to sit and take in the magic, watch the parades etc.

Have a great time together!!!

DD and I have left DH behind twice for girls only trips.
We did princess character meal in Norway, and we both dressed up for MNSSHP. (DH would never dress up) I also bought us a few matching t-shirts for us to wear to the parks.
My favorite part though, was the bonding for us. We strolled casually through the parks, taking pictures, eating mickey bars, holding hands. I will always cherish those two trips the most.

Have tea at the Grand Floridian! I know they also have a kids' princess tea, but I would suggest the regular afternoon tea with just the two of you. This is something my mom and I used to do, and I have fond memories of those times.

I would also suggest renting the mini mouse boats (sorry, I can't remember their names -- the small two person motorized boats) on bay lake for half an hour and tour around the lake.

I just did this with my dd in June...it was in every way wonderful!! We were on the DDP and did every meal a character meal, including the castle (at a table for 2 overlooking Fantasyland!!) after BBB. The BBB experience was very sweet, and it sure seems like my dd got extra pixie dust where ever we went. We also got 2 solid days out of that solid hairdo - we could have got 3, but she was done!!!

I let dd chose the rides, and we always ended up parkhopping back to MK...we must have done Goofy's Barnstormer 15 times in one day!!! I think one of the best parts for her was deciding the rides! She also loved filling up the refillable mugs at the resort too....Disney is the only place we drink soda! We browsed through shops, waited in a long, long line to visit pixie hollow, had swim breaks, had ice cream every day, and purchased a Disney umbrella for the daily rainshower. Probably the most special memory was watching the Spectromagic parade every time it was offered!

We even bought matching Minnie Mouse sweatshirts to remember our trip long after it's over.

I'm going on a mommy and me trip with my DD in Dec. I can't wait! You all sound like you've had so much fun doing them :)

I took DD now 12 when she turned 6. We stayed off sight and had a great time. Then we went back with DH and other DD other times and stayed on sight.

Now the younger DD9 and I are going on our mommy and daughter trip. The older one is on a school trip that week and I homeschool the younger one so we are free as a bird to hang out at Disney.

The first mommy daughter trip was very special becuase it was the older one's first time and this one will be special because it is kind of the last year the younger DD will be a kid according to Disney. DD9 is not a girly girl and we already did the castle on another trip. Just WDW with the 2 of us will be really cool.

I love my trips with my girls. My best advice is to just follow her lead. Make the time all about her and what she wants -- within reason, of course. We've done many of the things mentioned here, and my girls have not been harmed in any way whatsoever for having ice cream for dinner occassionally. We have had great fun playing in the rain and just playing in the pool.

Seriously, the thing that matters most is that she have your undivided attention for a few days. I think that is why everything is more fun on vacation -- because all the things that normally HAVE to get done like housework, cooking, errands, etc, aren't there to distract us.

Have a great time.

I was a single mom until last year so all my trips except one since 2003 had been mommy and me trip and I love them. We do Cinderella's Castle breakfast and share ice cream cones and popcorn, get fun pictures together, go to the Main Street Barber shop and both get gel color and pixie dusted....we just enjoy each other and do our thing. This year it will be DD6(it's her birthday trip) and DD1 and I for yet another Mommy and me trip for the 3 of us (DH does not like WDW..I know gasp!). I am very excited to go and experience this new experience with my 2 girls and to start new traditions with the 3 of us. As always we are going to do CRT for breakfast, we are doing the Wishes Dessert Buffet and I'm going to let them both go nuts on the desserts (which at home I don't let do) and stay up late and just have fun!
Have a fabulous trip, you will certainly have fun and just enjoy this time with your little girl while she is your little girl!
