I'm still in shock. I can't sleep so I decided to come here.
Yesterday, I took mother shopping for a new "summer wardrobe". We had a great time. She felt good and looked good.
This afternoon the nursing home called me. Mother was having chest pain and they called 911 to transport her to the Emergency room.
When I got there the doctor told me that she had "multisystem failure". Her heart, lungs and kidneys had failed.
It was so fast, I never saw it coming. I think she wore herself out. She fought so hard for so long and her body just wore out.
I had to give permission to take her off life support. I sat with her for the 30 minutes it took for her to stop breathing. She literally fought as long as she could.
My last words to her were the same thing I said to her every night, "Goodnight Momma, I love you." And I do love her.
My sister was able to get a flight to Michigan tonight. It was delayed and she didn't arrive until about 3am. Tomorrow we go to the funeral home.
This is all pretty surreal for me. So ironic that although she had her stomach removed because of cancer, she died cancer free.
