I'll go first!! This June we are going to Franklin, NC for 1 week to go gem hunting!!! We saw it on the travel channel and thought it looked like fun, we will be in search of saphires, emeralds, rubies and many many more stones. They are fresh from the ground and look like a dirty ol rock, and then they clean and cut them and you get an amazing stone to put in jewelry!!! Excited and nervous all at the same time. What is your's??

We just went To Egypt and Turkey in December (along with Disneyland Paris) this was a pretty unique holiday for us.

A couple of years ago we went to a Dude Ranch for 9 days, DD rode all day and I read my books.

Oh wait I forgot two other ones from years ago when I was a travel agent.

When I was 20, I flew to Iqaluit to see the land of the midnight sun, it was the longest day of the year and the sun didn't set, we visited the villages and had an arctic char dinner and then flew back again.

and when I was around 24 I flew on a travel agent fam trip on the Air France Concorde, we didn't go super sonic, it was just a 3 hour flight to no where to experience the flight and meal service.

Cartagena, Columbia was an interesting trip as well. Lots of interesting places in the world, we would like to get to machu picchu, Peru and the Galapagos, Equador in the next few years.

I've did the gem hunting in Franklin North Carolina about five years ago. It was so much fun. I didn't have any of my gems professionally cut because of the cost at the time. I just polished most of them myself and have them displayed on a book shelf.

My most unique vacation was swimming with stingrays about 12 years ago at the Cayman Islands.

We did this for our honeymoon ten years ago. It was really interesting and fun.

So many years, so many great trips for DH and I :wizard:

a few that come to mind ~

Renewal of wedding vows and a wonderful Hawaiian 4 island trip

DH retirement trip ~ lots of adventures made here, but attending the Queen's Horse Guard
at Buckingham Palace for the yearly Trooping the Colours parade was quite a sight

Panning for gold in Alaska and a mountain trip in a tiny 3 seater plane

Disney Magic C'mas cruise with our kids and grands.

Swimming with, holding and feeding the Stingrays in Grand Cayman for our 40th annv.

Trip to the top of Pikes Peak with our DS

and many many other family vacations making special memories :lovestruc

1986 Went to Australia to see Halley's comet, had Patrick Moore there for part of the tour, got to stay in an old opal mine and see the colours change on ayers rock.
2004 Went to Egypt went into a pyramid (don't do if claustraphobic!) see all the usual temples and see dawn on top of Mount Sinai.

2007 Went to Norway over the new year to snorkel with killer whales one day and watch them again in a bigger boat the next day.

By accident we lived through a two day long hurricane.

On purpose we flew a helicopter and landed on a glacier.

Obviously, neither was a unique vacation as a whole. But both were as far as we've gotten from "normal life" for us.

Thank you all for your posts, I want to do it all!!!! It is so cool how everyone's is so different from the rest....Keep it up let's hear more!!!

Well, DD and I have feed stingrays and Castaway Cay, played with Dolphins in Nassau on a DCL excursion. In 1996 before I had DD, I went to Europe for 2 weeks on a bus excursion, won't do that again. But we went inside of a windmill, that was neat.

I want to stay at Jules Undersea Lodge 1 time, I think that would be great. I also want to go close to Sarasota Florida, can't think of the area right now, but you "dig" for ancient shark teeth-I'm kind of weird, but it was on Travel Channel.

Now, I haven't gone to Gem Mountain-is that the one in Franklin? But I ordered 2 buckets a few winters ago and had them delivered so DD, her friend could pan 1 bucket and DD and I could pan the other bucket. We have several gems that I need to take to get cut locally.

We would LOVE to do this. Could you post a link? Do you do this with a group/tour? Are kids allowed? I'm very interested if you could share:)

We've had some fabulous vacations but maybe not so unique. Most recently we were in Egypt for a week and took a Hot Air Balloon ride over the Valley of the Queens/Kings, temples, etc. It was really great.

We've also done a week in South Africa, stayed in BushCamp and did several Safaris. LOVED that.

Italy was also fantastic, but didn't do anything really unique there. I would return in a heartbeat though:lovestruc

Happy Travels to You!

I guess the destination wasn't unusual but our means was. 3 years ago we drove from So. CA to New York. Hopped on the Queen Mary 2 to Southampton England. Rented a car there and spent 2 weeks driving up all through Wales and down through England. We spent a week in Glastonbury then took Eurostar to Paris/DLP for a week. Then, we went back to Southampton, hopped the ship to NY and drove home!

8 weeks! It was great!:)

frankin-chamber.com is the town's website to help you see all they have to offer. We are renting a 2bed 2 bath cabin for 1 week and it is only $399 includes tax!!! has all the comforts of home, oh my yes kids are in every picture I have seen from the mines. It was on the travel channel
