Most romantic restaurants in Disneyland

#1, 33
#2, Napa Chef's Counter
#3, Napa proper
#4, Carthay private enclave
#5, Blue Bayou
#6, 21 Royal
#7, (no longer exists, but SH55)
#8, Regular Carthay

Matt, what is the Carthay private enclave?

In Disneyland, the only place I can think of would be Blue Bayou unless you drop serious bucks and reserve well in advance for 21 Royal or can get into Club 33.

Otherwise, there are the DTD/hotel locations Matt mentioned above. I'd add Jazz Kitchen balcony and possibly Catal but I've never eaten there. It looks nice, though. There's another one--can't think of the name but it's upstairs with lots of glass and nice views in DTD on the opposite side from JK and Catal. It may not be there anymore, though.

In Carthay, they have two private enclaves, and the private dinning room. The private enclaves are really designed for two, and the private dinning room for 8 or 10 (I can't recall).

Since I'm old, and I probably last did the Carthay Tour 7 years ago, here's my excerpt from 2014 on it....

I really liked the three private dining rooms, Hyperion, Premier, and Buena Vista. The tale I was told is Hyperion is where they made Snow White, which Premiered at Carthay, and which allowed Disney to build Buena Vista. Not sure if that was just a tale, or actually how they came up with the names. Of particular interest was the few ton limestone base to the table in the Premier room. It was a replica of the Snow White wishing well. I was told the Premier requires a $1000 deposit, which from dinning at Carthay I know to be pretty much any meal with a drink or two per person... May have to do that someday...

So the Hyperion and Buena Vista rooms are what you would want for a romantic just for two experience. Apparently they seat 5, not 2 as I mentioned (mea culpa). Here's a pic of one. They are behind curtains off the main Carthay dinning room.

I do have to qualify, but the last two times I dined at Carthay (the main dinning room. The lounge was great), I was dissatisfied with my meal. It's seasonal and rotates, but I'm a fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, shame on you sort of person. I have NEVER had a bad meal at Napa or 33 however, not even a single bite was to my dislike. 21 was the best meal I've had in my soon to be 44 years of my life, but you are gonna pay for that one....

My most recent visit was very disappointing as well. It was crazy cold (47 degrees inside!!) and miserable. The wine took an hour to come out. The meal took forever as well, and meanwhile we were soooooo cold. The food was so-so but it wouldn't have mattered because the whole thing was so off. We were comped with a lava-cake type dessert but honestly, we just wanted to leave. It was pretty much a disaster as fine dining goes, and we were not the only ones by any means who were unhappy. Our poor waitress tried to make the best of it but she was run ragged and the issues were out of her ability to handle.

Your experience sounds like staffing shortage issues. My last experiences were well before COVID, and the meals really just weren't that good.

To be honest, it's my belief (and experience) that it matters more who you are with than where you are at...although ambiance can definitely impact the "romantic" mood. For the past decade the wife and I always had a specific dining rule... Always reserve Steakhouse 55 in the Disneyland Hotel, Cafe Orleans in Disneyland, and Carthay Circle in DCA. We can't recall a bad meal, poor service, or bad experience. However, our next visit in May will pose some problems since Steakhouse 55 is now closed and the menu appears changed at Cafe Orleans. Guess I will try Blue Bayou, which is great ambiance if the lighting is good (not too dark). But either way, when we are together we consider it romantic. And it doesn't have to cost a bundle either. We tried Napa Rose once and was put off by the wait staff and didn't think the food experience measured up to the expense...and we have never had the good fortune to be invited into Club 33. Just be sure to be attentive to each other and I think you'll find whatever restaurant you choose will be romantic.

BB is dark. The menus light up so you can see them.
