I am a photographer at the front gate of Universal Studios hoping to move on to Disney World soon due to the frustrating knowledge that I shall never be anything other than a pest in the eyes of the guests at Universal Studios while Photopass photographers are not allowed to hound people the way that we are required to do at Universal Studios, which I feel terrible about doing.

I do get some interesting questions from the guests at Universal Studios though. It can be frustrating to get no training about the kinds of information that the guests hope to get from me since I am often the first person whom they see after coming through the turnstyles; but my co-workers and I are not recognized as Universal employees, even though we are required to wear Universal uniforms, so I am hoping that Universal fans here can help me.

A man whose wife had left him because he had messed up badly wanted to impress her because she had recently returned for what he hoped would become permanently. He asked me what was the most romantic restaurant at Universal Studios.

I could have named a few excellent choices at Disney World because I went there twice while on vacation from San Francisco. However, Universal Studios is not a place that I could name a single romantic restaurant for. Since I make minimal pay and don't get the free tickets that the "regular team members" do, I am not in a position to be hanging out at Universal Stuidos with my significant other when I get a day off. This leaves me at a real disadvantage since this if far from the first time that I have been asked for recommendations at Universal. However, my heart went out to this man, who was so earnest, and have never forgotten him.

What would you have said in answer to his question? Do you think that Universal Studios has a romantic restaurant? Which one?

You really don`t like Universal Orlando at all do you??

I would say anywhere I am with my wonderful husband can be romantic.

Nathan`s hotdogs for example........I had one of the most romantic moments of my life there last year with my husband.........honest I did!!!! :thumbsup2

To be honest, I know almost nothing about Universal Studios. What I feel is not so much dislike but total discouragement. If you heard the private conversations among my co-wokers, you would know that I am the norm. I wish that I were wrong, but the truth is the truth with the turnover being the best evidence of that truth.

Some unsolicited career advice: don't bite the hand that feeds you. Potential future employers might be reading this.

If you hate it that much, leave, but don't burn bridges in the process.

I don't get a paycheck from Universal and I actually 'pay' to frequent the resort numerous times a year. It really sounds like you are disenchanted and don't like Universal very much. Perhaps you can get a job at Disney.:thumbsup2

To answer your question I would suggest Mama Della's, Mythos, or Bice.

While you are here on this forum, why don't you take a bit of time and read some FAQ threads to glean a bit of knowledge?

It's what you make it. Mythos, Three Broomsticks, Thunder Falls, Lombard's Landing

Done correctly, anyone can turn these "romantic"

Very good advice...maybe the OP will follow it. Just think of all the people in Orlando and across the country who would love a job...you know?

Just sayin.....
:rolleyes1

My son can atest, :thumbsup2 He is happy to have a job.

Is this a rant or a serious question? It costs nothing to find things out by yourself (other than internet access). If you feel that you would like to be more helpful to the people coming through the gate then there are many sites including Universal Orlando and sites such as this. These sites can give you a lot of background information. Don't be someone who waits to be trained, please go out and grab the information for yourself. While this job may not be right for you this advice is relevant for any job, it will make you someone who supervisors want to promote, don't be the person who wants to be handed everything while complaining. It will also make you competative for any other park related job you might want to apply for. I assume you knew the terms you were hired under. As for the complaining by co-workers my advice is not to get drawn in and take the moral high road. I have found if you surround yourself by negative people you become more negative as well and get drawn into the moaning.

I would have politely told the customer that I am not the best person to give restaurant advice and I would have directed the guy to the dinner reservations booth where they have personnel who can provide information on all the restaurants or guest services for advice.

My top three choices would be Bice (never dined there), Emeril's Tchoup Chop at RPR, and Latin Quarter (outside on the patio under a star filled night sky).

FWIW, I've never felt hounded by Universal photographers at all!

Thunder Falls is GORGEOUS. If they had anything a vegetarian could eat as a proper meal I would LOVE to sit there. Sitting outside in the back of 3 Broomsticks was lovely. Mythos looks amazing. Service is spotty and you have to get over to Portofino Bay Hotel, but Sal's pizza and salad is delicious, and if you get there at sunset you can be serenaded by an opera singer.

Since I make minimal pay and don't get the free tickets that the "regular team members" do, I am not in a position to be hanging out at Universal Stuidos with my significant other when I get a day off.

I've looked at their Florida resident AP rates and they are pretty good. Add that to the monthly payment plan, and it might just be worth your while, if you're staying there, to go for it and spend some time there as a guest.

And, FWIW, Disney CMs can hate their jobs, too!

This post makes me giggle.
My vote for most romantic is Tchoup Chop at Royal Pacific...excellent atmosphere, very private feel to it. Mama Della's at Portofino is also a great choice, especially when they have the musicians walking around singing. But romance i what you make of it. My wife confessed her love for me while walking along the lagoon during HHN. She felt it was the "right time" to tell me. Underneath the stars, chainsaws and screams roaring in the background, and her clutching me for dear life because she was scared...yeah, it was the right time.:goodvibes

I am glad that I keep you amused. I just wanted to get some advice from Universal customers and not executives. I did get excellent scores on guest services during my employment review for the efforts that I have made to be helpful. Yet, as you can see here, Universal has a sense of inferiority with regard to Disney and is very touchy.

Do you think that the Portofino is the best value for the money? I get asked about on-site hotels by guests staying off-site as well. I am not in a position to see the rooms at the Portofino, but I like the lagoon area.

I do almost every time I enter a park (usually worse at IOA for some reason). They are really annoying. Leave me alone. It's like photo-rape. If I have any interest in having my picture taken, I will ask you.

I wouldn't consider it any different than the photographers camped down main street at MK.

It's completely different. I don't know how you can say that. The person who started this thread would tell you that. The only similarity between the two is that they have cameras.

I have never been bothered at IOA or Universal with photogrophers. We say yes please, or no thank you, and thats it. :confused3
