Most Quiet and Most Loud

Riviera has always been quiet for us. Knock on wood, no issues so far GF, SS, BC. I am a terrible sleeper and hate nonstop noise, too, so I’m definitely finding myself liking being away from the action for our rooms, ironically. We really were frustrated mid December with the mob of humanity at GF everywhere outside the rooms. I’d like to do a resort-only stay there NOT during a major holiday, as I think it would be lovely.

I found this chart very helpful. Those GF (now VGF2) walls were indeed paper thin against construction noise.

Of course, any Disney hotel has the possibility to be full of kids with terrible neighbors banging on the walls. Or maybe Disney is jackhammering out the balconies on the building next door to you.

DVC consensus seems to be that BLT is quiet.

Boardwalk View at Boardwalk was by far loudest for us. Won’t book that room again without a travel sound machine.

Oof...BRV get an F on that chart! That's the place I want to stay at the most!

The more I look into SSR, the more I am liking that has an option. The main downsides seem to be having to take the bus everywhere (and multiple stops) and the potential for a long walk to the quick service place for breakfast.

I'd take that chart with a HUGE grain of salt. Not sure how old it is (they don't list Copper Creek Villas, just the Lodge), but in all the times we've stayed at BRV, I have never once heard sounds from adjacent rooms on either side. When we were there last September, they had already begun the refurb demo, and we didn't even hear THAT in our room. The BRV building is far enough away from the main lodge that you can't hear the Silver Springs Pool, there's no foot traffic like the main lobby, you can't really hear the fireworks, and there are only 136 rooms spread out over 5 floors.

Plus, any review that gives All Star Sports (or All Star Anything) an "A", especially when outside noise is allegedly part of the analysis, has some seriously flawed results. All Star Sports is notorious for having absolutely awful outside noise, especially when there are 600 cheerleaders there. You have exterior hallways, a huge number of kids, and the aforementioned cheerleaders (and other sports groups) there seemingly on a weekly basis.

Oh, and Yacht Club and Beach Club are side-by side, built at the same time, and are virtually identical, yet one gets a "B" and the other gets a "D"...🤷‍♂️

The loudest rooms I have experienced are the Big Pine Key Resort Studios at VGF. I could hear every conversation next door.
THe original VGF building has been quiet, though.

I just stayed at BR in February after the flip. Loved the room, but noise is definitely an issue. I'm guessing it's the doors. From the adjoining room in our lockoff, we could hear the conversation and the TV. They had a large family, and we could make out actual sentences of louder family members, just noise for quieter ones. This was normal conversation not anyone yelling or whatever. They were watching the Bluey about getting dirty. They were fine neighbors, and mostly quiet when we cared, so no big deal. But this was not modern soundproofing standards in a "deluxe" property. With bad neighbors, this could be a real problem.

But yes, I agree the loudest property I've been in was VGF2, Big Pine Key. It was the loudest I've been in anywhere for many years, with the exception of a cheap Spanish Airbnb, which wasn't a hotel anyway. The visible gaps in the doors are embarrassing and lead to obvious noise. I could hear above neighbors walking and flushing the toilet. That's bad.

Some one needs to come up with a door noise muffler specific to BPK that can hang on the connecting doors that can pack in a carry-on...... could be a money making opportunity!

Do you think lock-offs at all properties would have this same issue? We plan to be in a studio when we visit and I assume the odds of us being in one are pretty high.

I've never been able to hear a peep in VGF1 (not resort), and I've stayed in those lock-offs many times. Also Kidani, in my experience. I stayed Dolphin once and couldn't even tell you if I had neighbors.

I've never stayed at the ones that are supposed to be the best for this. BLT, OKW, SSR. I would imagine RIV is good, but won't ever get to stay there.

I stay at BW 1BR a lot, my most common booking, and I've not heard much from the room next door. I think some screaming or a loud TV? That could have just been lucky, because you can hear hallway noise with loud people who had beverages, and the building is quite old. I consider BW on the quiet side, but that could have been luck.

I have a noise machine in my owner's locker, and I'm not very sensitive to noise. So I don't really mind, but many of these are dated properties that don't have modern soundproofing you'd expect even in much cheaper properties.

It depends on the room layout. If the connecting door is in the living area to studio bedroom then chances of noise are greatest. If its in the entry then not so much.

Personally I never travel anywhere without ear plugs just in case. Your neighbors will play a big part and there's no control over that. I can guarantee that Roger Daltrey won't be one of them so take that chart FWIW.

We typically bring a white noise machine everywhere which seems to help most places. I hate that I'm so sensitive to sounds. Makes living life a pain the butt sometimes!

I was thinking exactly the same thing after looking at the chart. Some rather odd groupings in there - probably someone with a bad experience showing some very skewed results. We've had experiences at many of these resorts, and have had some quieter stays and some noisier stays. 90% of the time, the noise is because of rude neighbors and overly excited kids at Disney. Once, it was a 'service' dog people brought to AKL and left in the room alone, to bark, while they were out until 1AM. That's all the luck of the draw with the room you get and the neighbors. The only resort we'll never return to due to actual noise is Poly, and that was so disappointing - love the resort, hate the noise that includes the ferry boat horns from early morning until late at night.

Definitely agree that the aside from rude guests, connecting door is a HUGE factor on noise level. Love BWV but connecting door in bad spot if staying in a studio.

But the strange thing is we stayed at Riviera twice and although elegant feeling, my DH felt it was the absolute loudest resort we have ever stayed (and we've stayed in all). It all depends on the GUESTS but still feel like placement of that connecting door makes a huge difference. Got back 2 weeks ago from studios at BCV, Jambo Club Level & SSR (first time). We loved all and all 3 were perfectly quiet.....even being first room at Jambo Club off the eating area. Didn't hear a thing. We are also very quiet guests including talking in and out of the room and not slamming doors. My children when small were raised that way also when on vacation.

Never ever had a problem with Poly and stayed many times. (connecting door not in living area).

FYI, we are both terribly light sleepers and DH hates sound machines so it gets very tricky with sound at Disney.
I don't travel without earplugs for sure. Plus a pillow over my head.

You'd need two. There's also a huge gap to the hallway they didn't bother to fix.

The noisiest, in our experience, was VGF Resort Studios. I loved their location, but you can hear normal conversations thru the walls.

We were just there in January and heard no one! Not even the construction crew!

For me, the loudest stay we ever had was Boardwalk view at BW. Never ever again for me.

ETA: We also found the studios at OKW to be loud. That connecting door is really in an unfortunate spot. Our neighbors weren’t even loud but you could hear everything. Too bad because I really liked the resort otherwise. So any future stays for us there will have to be in a 1 bed.

There are some really quiet places in OKW that you could request... away from pools, traffic, etc, but then it's a tradeoff with easy access to buses, food, and activities. Request a top floor and if you are getting a two bedroom place make sure it's a dedicated one and not a lock-off.

Which room type were you in at BRV?
