Most overrated food items and restaurants in WDW?

I think Chef Mickey's is overrated! Food is average at best, the only thing they have going for them are the characters.

Agreed. We go here on our first night for a few reasons (none of them being the food):

1) It gets us in a Disney mood (we don't hit the parks until Day 2),

2) It guarantees that our DS gets a pic with Mickey, Minnie & Donald so that we don't have to think about waiting on lines to see them in the parks,

3) OK, I will admit, the cookies are pretty good. DS says the gummies are pretty awesome too.

Potato Wrapped Snapper at Flying Fish. Not amazing at all.

It's Not Bleedin' Chowder at Raglan Road. Yucky two times I tried it.

Cobb Salad at HBD. What's up with shredding everything? Also didn't taste good. Also didn't care for the Grapefruit Cake at HBD. And these are supposedly the "must have" items at this restaurant? We didn't really get it.

And our winner of the most-hyped experience overall...Whispering Canyon Cafe. Most disappointing meal ever. Skillet NOT good and atmosphere, service just not that fun.

Ditto! We love Chef Mickey's for our first night meal, but wouldn't even consider going there at any other time. We also love Dole Whips because where else can you find pineapple ice cream? And they just taste like the Magic Kingdom to us; the uniqueness and the emotional associations, not necessarily the taste, are what really make them special.

While I understand this sentiment, no one is required to read every thread on these boards. If you don't want to read what people don't like, you don't have to click on it. I personally appreciate the negative opinions as well as the positive ones. It helps me make choices when planning AND experiencing my trip. Of course, everyone is welcome to like what they like. The differences make the world interesting.

I'm not a food snob, so I have liked almost everything I have eaten at WDW, but the thing I was disappointed in because of the hype was the Oreo Bon Bon's at Cape May. They were fine, but nothing to write home about in my opinion.

As for Dole Whips, I didn't have one my first few trips after hearing about them because I thought they sounded kind of yucky. During our past trip my Dsis wanted one so we got a couple of the floats to share - It thought it was FANTASTIC. I can't wait to go back and get another one.

Simple solution... don't read them. No one forces you to open the thread. Some people like to discuss these things and don't mind the bad with the good.

People can like what they like... but not everyone is going to like the same thing. Nothing wrong with that and nothing wrong with giving an opinion if they don't like it.

Agree with this 100%, this was probably the one meal we had that we were ho hum about.
Garden Grill food, was our favorite meal.

Haha! Garden Grill is by far the worst place I've eaten in WDW, but Chef Mickey is one of my two absolute favourites. Completely opposite opinions

So sorry you didn't like Whispering Canyon Cafe. This was one of our favorites. I don't remember a lot about the food, but the atmosphere and service was amazing. Our waitress, Candy, was the best, she made the meal so much fun. We celebrated our DD 12th bday, and she had all the young boys in the restaurant come to our table and sing to her, pricesless. Our kids loved the stick horse races, and what can I say about "KETCHUP"

I agree with Chef Mickey's. We tried it, it was great for meeting the fab five but other then that we just thought, meh.

I would like to add that my Dad was there for his first trip since I was 4 and he loved it! Then again, he was thrilled that the food came fast and kept my 1 1/2 year old quiet for a few minutes-she was a beast on this trip!!!

Grand Marnier slushy in France.

After hearing it called "the best drink in the World" on the Travel Channel, I was eager to try it. It was too strong and too orange-y for me.

Now, the Grey Goose slushy is heaven in a glass.

'ohana...wayyyy bad. Mediocre, cold food. Dried out, over-cooked meat. Bad service. Lousy entertainment. Dessert was OK, but too sweet to enjoy much of it. Never again.

grand marnier and grey goose slushies...while tasty,we found them to be wayyyyy too light on alcohol to warrant the prices they charge. You should at least get a little buzz off it!

Zebra domes...yuck. I suspect the people that really like these are reacting to the booze in these, and confusing that with taste, lol. Mostly we just thought the texture was gross.

Tonga toast...again, yuck. So sickeningly sweet 3 adults couldn't finish one serving. That "stuffing" of hot slimy bananas. Ugh. We love banana bread, but whole bananas heated to slime cosistency. Not good.

I totally agree. Love the Grey Goose Slushy! My favorite drink in Epcot. I do wish it had a bit more Grey Goose in it though

I am probably going to offend some people by saying that I think most of the stuff in the Boulangerie Pattiserie in France are overrated. The Napoleon is very good but other things, not so much. Not a ton of taste. I had a ham and cheese croissant last summer that was so greasy - almost inedible. And the slushy coffee machine they have in there is terrible - don't try it!

People talk about the Main Street Cinnamon rolls like they will change your life. They are large and served nice and warm, but not that special IMO. Good but not "have to have" for me.

I do love the Dole Whip but we can get that a Disneyland, although the swirl with vanilla is not available there.

I agree with Le Cellier. The atmosphere there is probably the worst at Disney. Feels like you are eating in someone's overcrowded basement.

For me it was the Zebra Domes at Boma. They're OK just not as great as most people say. I would also say the cupcakes at Starring Rolls. We usually get them every trip, but really they look a whole lot better than they taste.

Funny-my sister went to ohana and Loved. It. I kept saying, 'it gets horrible reviews on Disboards', but she went, and she still raves about it!

Grey Goose slushie-I agree. There was minimal alcohol. For $8 (or whatever it was) give me some alcohol.

Zebra domes, and oreo bon-bons, same. No one in my group liked those, but we aren't big dessert people.

I just laughed at your tonga toast description. I've never had it, but it sounds like what I would imagine it to be

ps I have never had a dole whip ever. Just never seems to be a good time to have one!
