Most overrated food items and restaurants in WDW?

For our family it would be Chef Mickey's. Food there was not that warm.
I would also add to that Mickey Waffles in general. I happen to make a pretty good buttermilk waffle, and sorry Mickey but you can't make a waffle to save your life!
One thing we really seem to like is having burger and fries at Restarauntosaurus.

I've read a lot of things here that don't fit the topic. There's a big difference between "overrated" and "just bad"

The coffee and pizza, Tony's, Planet Hollywood, hot dogs, quick serve burgers are just BAD.

As far as overrated? Hmmm...let's see:

Le Cellier should always be at the top of the list

I have a soft spot for Coral Reef...but many have a legit reason to classify this.

Prime Time is horribly overrated...as are most places in MGM

The two restaurants in Mexico.
The two restaurants in italy.

Ohana is actually very overrated.

And it pains me to say it...but a lot of the signatures - if not all - have suffered greatly since they started to streamline the menus for the dining plan (cuisine a la Walmart)...particularly california grill and citricos...but jiko has suffered as well.

All character Buffets

Yachtsmans Steakhouse

Turkey Legs (they're just nasty...it must be something about the tendons)

Rainforest Cafe

Dole Whips are great...but as others have said, its really overrated. pineapple ice cream and pineapple juice...not exactly enlightening.

A large amount of the food at food and wine festival is horribly overrated...but i suppose that has much to do with the prep, transport, and baking under warming lamps.

And this is just a general thing...not necessarily disney...but can we STOP IT WITH THE CHEESECAKE AND CREME BRULEE it's like buffalo sauce and sun dried tomato in the 90's...enough already!!

Ohana. All aspects.
Crystal Palace food.
Dole whip (another vote)
Beignets at POFQ (the ones I make are better)

Chef Mickey's...we've eaten one time each for B, L and D and we were totally underwhelmed (except dd). Cringed when my dd told me she wants to eat there next trip.

The Luau at the Polly...all 3 of us thought the food was awful, entertainment was just ok. Not good enough to justify the prices, IMO

ETA: 50's Prime Time...it's just okay. Last time we ate there, we decided it's a BTDT place for us now.

Tonga Toast...neither dh nor myself saw what the others were raving over.

As for the school bread, until they changed them they were apparently more authentic. There was a thread awhile back with the difference between the old school bread and the new school bread but the photos are still out there:

There's a definite difference. Not only the size but the texture of the bread, and I think the pictures show that even the custard is a different consistency.

Strange, my husband loves the CP food, so that's the main reason we used to go! The place is quite nice and characters good, but neither of us are too bothered about Pooh & gang.

For me it's Le Cellier and Chef Mickey's. I thought LC was good, not great and CM I thought was just OK. The food was cold, selection just OK and not a quality meal.

I would have to say the Zebra Domes!!!

About 3 or 4 years ago, people were raving about these left and right so we tried them all three of us practically spit them out at the same time!!! It was something about the taste, it was just bad!!!

They just were nasty tasting!!!

I just remembered the Pizza at All Star Movies was bad, worse than Tony's frozen pizza bad!!!

Worst meal in Disney had to be Mama Melrose, terrible service waiter was rude and obnoxious!!! Food was over cooked and undercooked at the same time and was just plain aweful!!!

But I like these threads because it gives me people's opinions (especially if they say why) on things I may be thinking about trying

My Dh and I came up with a couple:

1. tonga toast - I was excited to try this as it's one of the most raved about food items on the Dis. Maybe all the hype made my expectations goe thru the roof, because this wasn't anything exciting to me. I didn't like it. Yes, I just said that!

2. turkey legs - My DH thinks this is over rated for what it is...just a turkey leg. He thinks they taste pretty plain....

3. O'hana - This restaurant just didn't do it for us. Kind of surprised with all the hype it gets.

Yes, as I go through the photo thread I notice tons of hype for that school bread. I'll need to try that next time and see "what all the hype is about!" :upsidedow

I pretty much like all of the food at Disney, but when I finally had the chance to try out Le Cellier in Epcot, I found myself underwhelmed. It was good, but my wife had been previously and couldn't stop talking about the steaks and chedder cheese soup. I tried them, and the steak was good but not the greatest I had tried, and I wasn't a huge fan of the cheese soup. Considering the cost and how difficult it was to get into the restaurant, I thought it was a bit overrated.

My daughter didn't care for the biscuits and gravy at the resort so she ate my food instead... I took a pic of her face frowning about her food ..so so funny.. if I could figure how to get a pic on here I'd put it here for all too see...

Can I vote virtually all Disney restaurants? Over the years the quality has gone down but yet the prices and hype seem to keep going higher.

I agree totally. That is why we rent a car and usually eat off-site. The food is twice as good and ½ the cost. It is certainly not the case that the on-site food is bad. The food is ok and at times even good, but not great. I think most people like the convenience. I like to go to some of the on-site restaurants for that reason. It is also nice to see all the happy people (most of the time) enjoying their vacations.
