Most Important Items to Take to WDW

A dollar store multi-compartment shoe bag that hangs - you know those plastic sheets with the compartments for shoes, to keep all your toiletries in. I had read that hint on these boards prior to our last trip and it was one of the best tips I found. I hung it on the clothes rack next to the vanity in the washroom and put all our brushes, creams, toothpaste, razors, etc. in it. Kept the very small vanity tidy.

My twin and I went one year the first two weeks of September and it was HOT, and HUMID! Not to mention all those damn Love Bugs. We rented a convertable but kept the top up with the AC on cause it was that bad. I remember the first time we ever went to Florida (back in 1982ish  ) and I remembert he plane door opening and the humidity hitting you like a tonne of bricks! :rotfl2: I would just say drink lots, but beware of the Forida bottled water it has an metal taste (to me anyways). We bought some on our last trip (in 2003) and we never drank it..we had to go and buy a different brand.

I agree with ponchos, but I see lots of people comment on how thin dollar store ones are and to take more than one of them for each of you - we bought our ponchos at Disney (our our rubber ducky yellow, they now have clear ones), they have Mickey on the back, and last year my DS bought an adult one for $6 at one of the parks. We have had ours for four years now, and use them every year - they're thick and comfortable, fold up small enough, and last quite a while - also come in children's size cheaper. If you have to keep buying dollar store ones, it's probably more worth it to buy the Disney ones and keep re-using them.
We go every year last two weeks of August - we love the Florida heat, but definitely take bottled water with you every day. We have a DVC kitchen in our one bedroom, so we always keep bottled water in the freezer then take it with us during the day and drink as it melts, stays very cold.
Hats are a must, and sunscreen too.
Rain doesn't make any difference this time of year to your enjoyment - never lasts long, and each park has lots of indoor shows and rides to keep you dry - most of the line-up areas are covered or inside as well.
No matter what, you'll still enjoy every minute!!!

There's a GREAT book out there... "Along the I75" by Dave Hunter.
Best Book! The pages are MILE BY MILE not like a map that you read DOWN..
It also shows you where the cops like to hang out... what resturants have playcenters for the kiddies... and a whole bunch more. The book is so popular with " Snowbirds " they have a new addition every year.

Don't forget a pack of CARDS>
They are small enough to pack in a purse and were awesome for the kids to play with while waiting for the parades to start! We always have a couple kids join in too....

Two odd items that we found handy last August were disposable Dixie cups for tooth-brushing and in the parks to share large drinks or to get water from a fountain; and clothes pegs so that you can hang your wet clothes from the line over the bathtub. We have 5 in our family and always had to hang wet clothes over the chairs and anywhere else we could find a spot - the pegs make it easier to fit everything on the line. We also took a container of powdered lemonade and a Brita filter pitcher for the room which worked out well for us.

We have been in late Aug 04 and 05 and yes it is stifling hot but the crowds aren't too bad. All the US kids are back in school. All of the great advice on this thread so far will be very valuable.
My daughter and I both wore Teva sandals the entire time we were there. I couldn't stand the thought of putting on heavy running shoes in that heat. Most people were wearing sandals of some description. Just make sure they are good quality. The great thing about Tevas is that they are waterproof so we didn't care if we got soaked on a ride (and we did).
We were at the parks at opening and did the most popular attractions first then we stayed until we were hungry and tired and went back to the resort for lunch, to rest and swim and usually struck out again the the late afternoon. We had a great time both years and guess were we are headed again this August? Yep, it seems to have become a habit! :sunny:

About the Large Zip-lock bags, where would you get them?

I've never seen a large sized zip-lock bags before, all I've seen are the small one enough to put your veggies in. :rolleyes1

^ you can get the large zip lock bags in most grocery store, like stop and shop.

When my mom and I go, we normally go in August, and we always bring sneakers and sandels. becuase in august there are random thunderstorms almost everyday. if we are wearing sneakers that day we will bring a bag with us to put sandels in and when it starts to down poor we change into our snadels so that our sneakers don't get completely soaked.

First Thing-lots of money :thumbsup2
Second Thing- ME!!! :goodvibes
Because, the Second Thing usually goes through a lot of the First Thing :rotfl2:

can we add anything to this list?? i love the dried fruit and miniature fans

I can only stress what some other's have mentioned:

poncho's for rain- if you don't feel like taking them you can always buy them

sunscreen

water bottles and wetnaps or cloths

very very very comfortable shoes

After that, go and have fun, remember to take in the little things instead of racing around. :goodvibes

I'll echo the extra pair of shoes. My first trip as an adult, I had to take a day off from the parks and go buy more shoes since my feet were killing me! Now I always bring at least 3 different pairs to rotate.

I made the mistake of bringing one pair of shoes and it was terrible! My feet got really chewed up and I ended up getting sandals from the resort gift shop. Now I bring at least 3 pairs with me.

Don't worry too much about forgetting things. You can find a lot of essentials in the gift shops, and there's plenty of stores nearby.
