Most gen public discounts are thru 10/03, expect anything to come out after that?

Looks like the general public room only & dining plan discounts end Oct 3rd. Our trip is from the 3rd-9th, so I was wondering as time goes by if you generally see a new discount come out for the dates to follow the current one? I know no one has a crystal ball, but just wanted your thoughts on how it has been in the past.

No crystal ball, but my thoughts....

Mid-January final fiscal papers (LMPQ's) are due to the IRS by corporations, if WDW runs on a Jan - Dec fiscal year.

With the above said - I they would know their, WDW's, profit and loss statements for 4th fiscal quarter 2009.

Then based on profit and loss statements for 3rd or 4th fiscal quarters 2009 - any 2010 discounts would then begin.

WDW starts with Florida, near by states and AP holder discounts first. The families most likely to frequent the WDW Parks. They also may send out PIN codes to some guests and allow Chase Disney Visa card holders have some discounts. After that General Public discounts.

Bottom line - WDW discounts after 10/09 would not come out till after September 2009 (when 3rd fiscal quarter ends).

For Jan - March 2010, I think WDW discounts would come out after or close to the end of the 4th fiscal quarter 2009, about early December 2009.

Then for April 2010 into June 2010, the WDW discounts may come out around the end of 1st fiscal quarter in 2010, sometime in late March 2010.

Holidays, Peak days and Summer are sometimes excluded from discounts.
Also fiscal quaters do not end on the exact last day of the quarter. The last few days of the quarter are acrude to the next quarter.

WDW would have to know their Profit and Loss statements, before they would do layoffs, hire employees, give out WDW discounts or declare chapter 7.

and ShellyLynn, I called reservations and was told the discount would only be for my first night on Oct 3rd. I called back thinking I had gotten a CM that was new and was told the same thing. I am a DIS veteran, but we have not been able to go in 5 years, so it has been a while since I have been on the boards. So much changes that I wasn't sure. I was really hoping for the room only discount of 35%.

You know you may be right, and I may be wrong, but I would keep playing castmember roulette for a few more times. I had to do just that to book more than one package with my Disney Visa. It took like four cm I think, but I finally got what I wanted. I do think tommorow is the final day you can book the free dining. I wish more people would chime in here. I am just trying to help you save yourself some moola! But I could be completely wrong too!!!:rotfl:

when I played around with the free dining on disney site... if you start off with the free dining on Oct 3rd, it gave it to me for the entire stay.
Now if I played around with the room only discount, it only gave it to me for the first night and not afterwards.
:confused3

That makes sense to me - Disney changed their system so that the room rates are by night, not by the first night you check in...so for example if you check in during value season and check out during regular season, it used to be that you got the value season rate for the whole trip, but now it's that you get the value season rate during value season and the regular season rate during regular season.
So, the same is probably true with room rates - you get the discount when the special is still going but you lose it once it's after that date.

Package options, on the other hand, are priced for the entire trip - so if you're getting free dining, they don't have the ability to make it free for one day but not the rest - it's either all or nothing. I know there are people going for 10 days + in December on the pin code and have free dining through christmas because of it.

I'd suggest booking with free dining through the website and then if a room-only discount comes out that would save you money, just get your reservation changed. Free dining is the better deal at values and moderates in value season (or if you have more than 2 adults in a moderate room)...% off the room rate is generally the better deal (depending on the %) if you are staying deluxe or for moderates in any season other than value.

So you can book free dining to save some money, and then hope that a code comes out for % off if you're staying deluxe that you can have applied to your room.

I checked on the website and there's availability at all the different room categories (value/moderate/deluxe) for 10/3 - 10/9 using free dining...some hotels might be booked, but you should be able to find something you like

and thanks to all of you for your responses. I will go ahead and book with the free dining and if I can change it to the room only discount I will. I did not realize you could switch from one type discount to another after it was already booked. Like I said, I have been gone for a long time, so I am learning all over again.

If you book the Free Dining Package a $200 deposit will be due when you book and then the balance will be due 45 days before your trip. And yes, the discount will be good for the entire length of your stay. If you make changes that make the totoal of your trip go down after you pay the final balance at 45 days Disney will more than likely charge you a change fee. The last day to book Free Dining is this coming Sunday 7/26.

If you book the Room Only a deposit of 1 night's stay will be due when you book and the balance will be due when you check in. The discount will only be good for the first night of your stay.

I hope this helps.

This is Disney, and historically they have their package discounts released well in advance of accounting schedules. Usually fall discounts come out around the same time as the next years packages. For 2009 we have had unprecedented discounts, even during Spring Break season and over July 4th. They have 26000 rooms to fill and have found creative ways to do it this year. After all if bookings are soft they don't want to publicize them on their accounting summaries--they want to fill up the rooms before those business conditions are released. They don't have to say how they filled up the rooms--just that occupancy is projected at XX% for a specific time period.

I'd keeping a lookout starting right now regarding codes for October-December 2009. ;)

FWIW.

You are correct and Oct. discounts usually come the first of Aug. (8/13, 14th last year) and with this years discounts appearing earlier, I expect those discounts any day now.

Here is a chart so you can see when discounts have been released for the last couple of years.

Book free dining now and switch to whatever comes out later if you find it a better deal or for your family

Talked w/reps on two separate occassions; both said wait 7-10 days to see if the free dining is extended. Good luck to eveyone looking for a deal
