Most Expensive / Moist Exhausting Continued - Final thoughts and wrap-up

As for that rebellious stage, can you really call something a stage when it hasn't ended yet??? :lmao:

And on that farm she had a Piglet!!!

I'm only TAD rebellious; In things like calling the USPS Worker the Overnight Guy, making my kids eat seared tofu a couple times a month, and spraying a large plot of my grass with Roundup while my hubby is gone so I can have a bigger garden. :rolleyes1

But, the real question is did it go "Wee, wee, wee" all the way home?

I think the real story to the spelling of Liesa's name is that she went with the way Dan spells it. Oh wait, you made that same joke didn't you?

My husband is a total spelling nay-sayer too. He thinks that Ben Franklin was just vying for another best-seller and that "any truly genious person can spell things many ways." :sad2:

:rotfl2:
What's scarier....a zebracorn or that you have a "My Little Pony" collection?
Hahahaha! Well, actually I don't collect "My Little Pony", but I have some very scary collections... in my Disney figurines collection there are some princesses :scared1: (the big guy playin' with dolls LOL!)... and this next trip I'll (try to) skip the pins and start collecting Vinylmation... as if there were any room left at home :rotfl:

Of course she does. Us women have to stick together! :rotfl2:

Somehow that always means my money gets spent.

What do you mean? I'm pretty easy to please. Update often but don't update too often and also don't update when i'm not available. What is so difficult about that?

:faint:

Absolutely!:lmao::lmao::lmao:

:upsidedow

What? I missed an update:eek:? Ugh, I am resigning myself to the fact that I will never win the Judy sightings game! Here I was thinking that there wouldn't be an update for a little bit since Glenn went to all the trouble of giving his (lame;)) excuses...work, out of town for work, pinewood derby work, work work work. And now my spidey senses are completely thrown off! Argh!

Yeah, you were another one bugging me for an update! Oh well, glad you found it eventually.

I absolutely love all the animal pictures! And yes, it was quite exciting to see the ever elusive zebracorn! Those giraffes look so cute! I can imagine my three girls squealing with excitement had we seen them. Boy that AKL looks so darn cool! DH has hinted about staying there but I'm resistant because it's so far from everything.

Thanks. Yes, I bet your girls would love watching the animals.

I'm glad folks keep saying AKL is so far from everything....that means less competition for reservations. ;)

What interesting artifacts! I love the little details like that. Great picture!

Thank you. Artifacts like that are all through the resort.

It sounds like you and the family had some nice relaxing (ie out of the blazing hot squinty sun) down time.:thumbsup2

It was nice. Short, but nice.

Can't wait to hear about the Hoop De Doo!:goodvibes

:)

The "Overnight Guy" one was hilarious. The seared tofu thing is just plain mean.

My husband is a total spelling nay-sayer too. He thinks that Ben Franklin was just vying for another best-seller and that "any truly genious person can spell things many ways." :sad2:

That's like that story that Einstein never could remember his phone number. I think it's all just an excuse.

Okay, I feel a little better about that. I haven't started collecting pins or vinylmation.....I don't want to get sucked-in!

The Calm Before the Easter Sunday, eh? Hope you're having a great weekend!

Glen, hope that you and your lovely family had a great Easter.

Just catching up on the update. I seem to miss a lot when I'm don't check in on the weekends!

Still enjoying the AKL pics as much as always. My DW keeps pushing me to plan a weekend getway there. She doesn't really have to push too hard.

(Oh, and I haven't had any trouble getting the concierge to do the Southwest check-in for me either.)

Hope you had a nice Easter!

enjoyed the update glenn, great animal pics, that would be really cool to stay there just for that aspect.

maybe when the kids are older we will so they can enjoy it too.

the pool looks really cool as well.

i think it is okay for them to to do the online check in for you, as i have always had one of them do it for me the day before we leave as well....and they never seem to have a problem with it.

Well, I hope you also check during the week. :rolleyes1

Oh, I hope you do....you'll love it!

I just wasn't sure about the Front Desk. I thought maybe they'd have "front desk" tasks to do.

Hope you had a nice Easter!

We did. It was really nice.

Like I just said to the Captain, I think you'd really enjoy it. It's amazing just to watch the animals for a while.

That's good to know. I know they'll try to do whatever they can for you.

Day 8 - Part 7

After a little relaxation, some cooling off, a change of clothes, and a bunch of animal pictures, we caught a bus to the Magic Kingdom. We left somewhere between 5:30 and 5:45, and had almost no wait for a bus. Similarly, at the Magic Kingdom we only had a very short wait for the boat, so we had great transportation mojo on this particular evening. After a moment, we were seeing this.

IMG_4073.jpg

No, that’s not where we were going. But we were looking at the Grand Floridian from our boat en route to For Wilderness at a quarter after 6, so we were in great shape to make the 7:15 showing of Hoop de Doo Revue.

Around 6:30 we were arriving at Pioneer Hall.

IMG_4074.jpg

We signed in and were instructed to get our picture taken at their official Hoop de Doo picture-taking-spot amongst some wooden crates and other old-timey items. After the picture was taken, I tried to give the photographer our Photopass card, but he said that they don’t use Photopass for this. It would all be explained inside. Hmmm, okay.

Now we had nothing to do but wait. It was starting to sprinkle, so we took cover and stood on the porch area to the left of the entrance to Pioneer Hall. James and I were soon bored standing there so we walked around the building, where Trail’s End restaurant is, I believe. On the porch at the far end of the building, we found some empty chairs and a checker board. James begged me to play, bragging about how good he is. Naturally, I had to whoop him. Not once, but twice, because he thought that the first whooping was some kind of a fluke. And I’ll tell you, it was a good old fashioned whooping…I was making triple jumps to get a king, the whole she-bang. It was downright ugly. Hey, I’ve gotta enjoy it now. One of these days he just might beat me at some of these games.

We wandered back to the porch where the ladies were waiting, and a little after 7 we were allowed to enter Pioneer Hall. I’d splurged for the Category 1 seating and we were in the front row, all the way to the left side of the stage. They were pretty good seats, and the kids loved being that close. Our server took our drink orders, and Judy and I both got sangrias.

A guy came around with our picture. He said, “You recognize those people?” And I was impressed by what a really, really nice picture it was. It was one of the best we’d taken all week. But it cost an extra $30! The price didn’t matter all that much, I was just seeing red that it was additional. I mean, I’d already shelled-out big bucks for the Photopass CD, and category 1 seating at the show. There was no way that I was going to pay more money. I declined the picture and sent the guy on his way.

Soon the servers started bringing out some food, starting with salad and cornbread.

IMG_4075.jpg

IMG_4076.jpg

It appears that Marlene is using mental telepathy to assist Lauren in serving herself some salad.

IMG_4077.jpg

We thought the cornbread was really good, but the salad was overdressed.

Here’s James checking out the menu.

IMG_4078.jpg

I got in the corner, behind our table, to take a picture of the whole room.

IMG_4079.jpg

Then I lined-up the family for a portrait.

IMG_4080.jpg

You can see that we were right up against the stage.

While waiting for the show to start, I noticed the stage lights mounted up on the ceiling and took a picture especially for Great Biscuit, who is a big fan of stage lighting.

IMG_4081.jpg

Soon there was a ruckus in the back of the room as the actors entered the hall, with “Six Bits” Slocum (who steals the show with his comedy relief) banging on a drum. The first song they perform is the All-States song. When they got to Pennsylvania they rhymed it with “Wouldn’t blame ya.” As in, we wouldn’t blame you for wanting to come here from Pennsylvania. Hey!

IMG_4084.jpg

IMG_4086.jpg

IMG_4087.jpg

IMG_4089.jpg

At one point in the song, and I don’t remember what he rhymed it with, but Six Bits pointed at me and said, “I hope he’s stayin’ sober!”

IMG_4091.jpg

I wrote in my notes that another line Six Bits directed at me was, “I’ll bet you wish you looked as good as me.” But again, I don’t remember what he rhymed it with. He may be saying it to me in this next picture.

This is Six Bits and Jim Handy. This picture cracks me up. Six Bits is making a face, but I think that Jim Handy’s puzzled look is even funnier.

IMG_4092.jpg

I think this lovely character posing with James is Flora Long. She’s hot in a “Mary Ann from Gilligan’s Island” sort of way.

IMG_4093.jpg

This character is Dolly. She provides the female comedy relief.

IMG_4094.jpg

IMG_4095.jpg

I think these characters are Claire de Lune and Johnny Ringo.

IMG_4096.jpg

Six Bits and Dolly dancing right beside our table.

IMG_4097.jpg

IMG_4098.jpg

I told James that I was writing this chapter of the trip report and he said, “Oh, I loved that show!” Then he said, “Do you remember when Six Bits spit on me?” I was like “What?!” He said, “Yeah, he came up to me when he was walking out and he said something to me, and a bunch of spit hit me right in the face.” So apparently it was completely unintentional, but I surely don’t remember that!

Maybe Six Bits should change his name to “Big Spits”!

And here you thought the moisture mentioned in the trip report title was just provided by humidity, perspiration, and precipitation. Oh no, my friend. Add saliva to the list.

Look at the kids up in the balcony, having the time of their lives.

When that number ended, the food for our main course arrived, and included fried chicken, barbecued ribs, and baked beans. Allears.net lists mashed potatoes, but none of us remember those. We’re thinking that maybe we had corn on the cob, but our memory’s a little hazy. Plus, I can’t believe it, but I totally blew it on the food pictures. I can’t believe that by day 8 of the trip that it wasn’t second nature to take a picture of my plate, but this is the closest thing to a food picture we have of our main course:

IMG_4100.jpg

Hopefully, one of us told Marlene to wipe the barbecue sauce off of her nose at some point.

Anyway, I didn’t even realize that I didn’t get any food pictures until much later, when I was looking through the pictures of this evening. The only thing I can think is that maybe I was going to take a picture of the buckets of food that they brought out and then decided to take a picture of my plate of food instead…and then when I had my plate of food, I thought that I had taken pictures of the buckets of food. Or, maybe I was just enjoying myself and the time with my family too much, to remember to take a picture of the food.

While we ate, we talked and tried to decide what our favorite thing was from the trip. “Just being together” we decided. :goodvibes:

And with that, I told the kids about a conversation I had with a co-worker a couple of days before we left for the trip. I had told her that we were going to DisneyWorld and she asked what ages my kids were. When I told her, she was surprised that teenagers would want to spend time with their parents. Lauren was surprised at that, which made me feel good.

As far as the food goes, the chicken was good, and tasted more like Kentucky Fried Chicken than the delectable Whispering Canyon fried chicken. That’s okay, I like KFC fried chicken, but Whispering Canyon was better. The ribs…oh, the ribs were great! Judy still remembers them. And I think that’s rib sauce on Marlene’s nose in that last picture, so that tells you something. As for the sangria, both Judy and I switched. I think she went with white wine and I switched to iced tea. I guess we found out that we’re not sangria people. Where’s a Bud Lite Lime when you need it, right?

We ate quite a bit, and I think we ended up getting a second bucket of ribs. Maybe sticky rib-fingers is another reason that I never took any food pictures.

Just as we were finishing up, the second act of the show started.

IMG_4104.jpg

IMG_4105.jpg

I can’t stress enough how Six Bits steals the show. Heck, he is the show! And, he’s hilarious.

When it was time for dessert, our strawberry shortcakes made their entrance from the stage. This is the closest thing you’ll see to a strawberry shortcake picture too.

IMG_4130.jpg

IMG_4132.jpg

The strawberry shortcake was just okay. Not as good as real, home-made, with in-season berries…but okay.

Apparently the free refills were getting to James, who had to go to the bathroom already, so I accompanied him. While we were in there, I noticed the strangest picture on the wall and wished that I had my camera with me. Anyway, remember this…I’ll come back to it.

When we returned to our seats, the third act had already begun.

IMG_4133.jpg

I know that they worked-in a lot of “bear” puns with Six Bit wearing this bearskin, but I don’t remember any. So, that’s good -- I don’t have to issue a “Spoiler Alert”.

IMG_4136.jpg

Fortunately, I wasn’t “volunteered” to go up onstage.

IMG_4137.jpg

IMG_4138.jpg

For the grand finale, they brought out some “instruments” and James got to play the washboard, as if he’d even know that that’s what it was.

IMG_4139.jpg

IMG_4140.jpg

IMG_4141.jpg

IMG_4142.jpg

Six Bits exiting with his drum, just like he came in.

IMG_4143.jpg

IMG_4144.jpg

And with that, the show was over. My family absolutely loved it! It was a huge hit and a great way to wrap up the week.

We hit the bathroom one more time on the way out, and since I had my camera with me…even though the bathroom was busy…I surreptitiously got the lens cap off, turned the camera on, and when no one was looking…

<looks left>

<looks right>

I quickly took a photo of the strange picture that I mentioned to you earlier.

IMG_4145.jpg

Isn’t that weird? They’re all getting dressed at exactly the same moment? No one’s making coffee? No one’s tending to the horses? It just looks really odd to me.

Maybe the Trail Boss said, “Okay boys, today we’re going to have a change of underwear.”

All the cowboys cheered “Hooray!”

Then the Trail Boss said, “Clem, you change with Zeke. Roy, you change with Jim-Bob. Curtis, you change with…”

6 Judy's!

ETA: Wonderful update! I loved it as I've always been curious about that dinner show. Wow, it looks like such a great time. Though I think I could do without being spit on, poor James!

Aw, what a sweet sweet thing for Lauren to say about being around her family! That must have just warmed your heart, it would've warmed mine. You have a nice group of kids Glenn, a real bunch of cuties!

Marlene's nose was too funny! At first I thought I had a smudge on my computer screen! Then I realized it was some sort of sauce. Those must have been some good finger licking, nose rubbing ribs!

Ok, that art work in the men's restroom is weird. Very weird. It kind of looks like they're all scratching their behinds! Perhaps they contracted chicken pox on the open trail?
