Thought I'd give you an update on today's Pinewood Derby, held by our church's Christian Service Brigade and Pioneer Girls (which are kind of like Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts). Maybe you remember last year's report -->
Sushi can be fast food.
We really procrastinated on building the cars this year.

James started his with a little more than a week to go, and Marlene couldn't come up with an idea to top last year's sushi-mobile, so delayed even longer. We didn't start hers until last Saturday, and turn-in was Wednesday night. That's not a lot of time considering that primer, paint, and glue all need time to dry.
Here's James' car. A nice design, but no frills in the paint job and adornments (which was okay with me!).
Since Marlene had so little time, we needed an idea

that wouldn't depart from the original block of wood too much. We came up with....a refrigerator!
She put a calendar on it, along with some pictures, and some childlike artwork.
She picked out and printed the pictures. They were all from our Disney trip.
Dan and Candi made it onto the car!
As well as Yeehaa Bob!
During the meet, I was coordinating placing the cars into the starting blocks, so Marlene tried to get some race pictures for me. This is the best one -- it shows James' car scorching the track en route to a win.
Marlene's car was second-fastest in the Girls category, but they only gave a trophy for first place. Oh well.
But in the Boys category, here's your winner!
I was glad that James got a trophy this year. He really wanted one after Marlene won two at last year's event.
Here's one last picture of Marlene and James with their cars.
It was a fun morning!
