We will probably be staying at Pop Century and want to visit Universal theme park one day. Is Mears transportation (at $16.00 PP R/T) the best way, or a taxi? Any other options without a car?

I think it may be higher but it will still be cheaper than taxi.
from what I gather it is about 40 to 45.00 one way taking a taxi.

We're planning on taking the bus to MK, the monorail to TTC and then the Lynx bus to Sea World.

From there you can either take the Iride Trolley to the nearest stop to Universal and walk the rest of the way or grab a taxi from Sea World to Universal which will be a LOT cheaper than from WDW. (we haven't decided among these yet, it depends on the time we arrive at Sea World to make sure we arrive before park opening at US)

Cheap Trick,

We're doing the same thing in February. Staying at Pop Century and using Mears to get there and back. $16.50 I believe per person, round trip. It's easily the most inexpensive route and from what I hear, not half bad.

Good luck & have fun!

takes 2 lynk buses to get from TTC or downtown disney(#50 to Central station #? to universal parking structure) to universal takes quite a bit of time if it is just 1 or 2 people take the mears shuttle leaves @ 25 min after the hour from pop till 10:25 I left the pick upopen they give you a card to call and give 2 hour notice to set up return trip worked great for 1 person.

Unless you want to spend most of your day on a Lynx bus, I would go with Mears. We took the Lynx bus one time and it took 1/2 a day to get to USO, the bus makes local stops everywhere and waits at certain destinations for 5 minutes at a time, it was horrible! I would choke it up and take the Mears, you can set up a time for pick up, I called from Pop and asked for a 9:00am pick up and then called them again about 5pm and they were there about 5:30. Just my experience with Lynx bus. HTH:cool1:

We did the Lynx from TTC to Sea World and then grabbed a taxi there to USO (much closer so it was a lot cheaper!). For the 4 of us it cost 18 bucks on the taxi and 6 bucks total on the bus tickets, so $24 to get us to USO.

My parents would arrive today and rent a car at the airport and meet us there, so for us it was a one-way trip (another reason why mears wasn't the best option for us)

But even if it was a round trip it would still have been cheaper than mears.

The TTC-Sea World bus doesn't have lots of stops (basicly at DTD and one more before SW if I'm not mistaken) so it didn't take too long.

I completely agree that continuing to Central station and getting another bus there would take forever! That would surely be one crazy thing to do as you would ride a lot more than you should, going to downtown orlando and then returning.

A taxi from Downtown Disney to Universal parking lot cost us $27 two years ago.

Does anyone have the number to call?

Do they pick up from all of the resorts?

Thanks

Yes, Mears picks up from every Disney resort, there is a phone no. in the phone list in the room, and the phones have a direct dial to Mears, it makes it very easy to call them. HTH :cool1:

depending on the # of peeps in your party, could easily be cheaper to rent a car for day onsite @ WDW using codes easily found on mousesavers:confused3

even factoring in the parking/gas; it could be a wash or less expensive

car car center will pick u up @ your resort (need to arrange shuttle day before) or can pick up a vehicle @ swan/dolphin or dollar in one of the hotels within walking distance of DTD (usually has the cheapest rates)

good luck

We went from POP to RPR in Feb '07. There were five of us, so Mears would have been about $80. I asked one of the CM's at POP to call me a taxi and request a van for 5. They came with a full size van within 20 minutes and it cost us $30 with tip.
