Most economical villa for 9 people.

Hi, what would be considered the most economical choices for a villa? We'd have nine total. It would be four adults and five children (one of which is infant in crib). (My hubby and I have five children, then grandparents coming too.) So, we wouldn't need as much room as adults would; the kids are all younger than 9 years old and can sleep together, on couches/floors, etc.

We were thinking along the value resort lines, but if we have to get three rooms at a value (as my hubby and I would get two and grandparents would get one), maybe we should look at splitting a villa? We've done the value resorts before and may want a change of scenery! It does not have to be "kid-themed". Thanks for any information, it is much appreciated!

What are the ages of the kids? You may want to look into renting points from a DVC member. But, you will get better and more accurate advice if we know the ages of the kids.

I'd look into renting points from a DVC member. Going rate is approx $10-$12 per point. Check on the DVC rent/trade board. Old Key West 2 bedroom villas would be a good fit for you. If you go during Adventure season, points would be 217 for a week. With 5 kids, the extra bathrooms and washer/dryer would really be a bonus. The full kitchen wouldn't hurt either. It'd save you lots of money, especially at breakfast!

With the ages of your kids, you are "technically" 7 people, not 9. The two youngest aren't counted. If you are really on a budget, you could fit in two rooms at a value, but it would be tight. (4 beds, 2 in each bed, plus a pack and play for the infant. Or two pack and plays, if the 2 year old is small enough) But, I would look into renting DVC points. A 2 bedroom villa would be so nice with your gang (2 bathrooms, and a washer/dryer!) You could try renting through David's. We did that, and stayed at Old Key West, and was more than happy. I felt safer renting through David's than doing a private negotiation with someone I don't know. We paid 13 a point. Still WAY cheaper than directly through Disney.

thanks so much; any help is so appreciated! the vacation club rental points board looks like a foreign language to me still. ;) i may check out david's rentals.

oh also, with the grandparents though....isn't it 9? We could still have option of sharing villa/larger space with them?

thanks.

Actually I think only one under three doesn't count toward the limits. So you would be 8 plus one under two.
I would look at the dvc rentals.

Yes this is correct, they are 8+1 if you are talking about 1 room.

A 2 BR at SSR or OKW will be your best bet. OKW sleeps 1 more than SSR because of a sleeper chair in the LR. Or a Treehouse Villa at SSR.

Have fun!

That's one under 3 PER ROOM, they'll need at least 2 rooms, so back to 7, unless they get a Villa through Disney reservations, then it's back to 8.

I would think you all would probably be most comfortable in a treehouse in SSR, but they are hard to come by. They are 3 bedroom units priced as most 2 bedrooms are.

AKL Kidani has 2bd villas standard view for reasonable points. Kidani 2 bd's have 3 baths. OKW and SSR 2 bd's have 2 baths. Kidani also has a pullout couch and chair. OKW and SSR do not have pullout chairs. Kidani has a great kids splash area at the pool. My wife and I own at SSR. We love the resort and like visiting OKW. But with your larger group, I would go with Kidani.

Incorrect, OKW does have the pull out sleeper chairs. They were installed with the last refurbishment.

I was going to suggest a 2BR AKV-Kidani as well. One of the cheaper rentals and you get 3 bathrooms

OKW - is probably your best bid. Plus it has the most room of all the DVC units.

a 2-bedroom will not be cheap. Would think 2 rooms at a value resort would be a better deal. that say you would be more crowded at a value than OKW by a huge amount.

now Kidani standard 2-bedroom might work too.

but would go for BWV standard 2-bedroom first - you are closer to the action.

If you are booking rooms. We're talking villas here.

When you book a villa, it is only one under the age of three who is not counted towards occupancy. So if you show up at a Grand Villa (three bedroom villa) with 2 yr old octuplets and two parents, you will be a party of nine plus one under the age of three.

Personally, I would never do nine in a two bedroom villa even though it would be legal. I'd get G&G their own studio and keep my family with me in the two bedroom villa. Mom and Dad and the baby in the master, four kids in the second bedroom. G&G in a separate studio.

that would be great - but it is not the most economical - definitely more comfortable

Thanks so much for all of your help! After looking into the cost-savings with renting points through a DVC member I am pondering that. Just have a bit of anxiety about it since I have never done that before! Thanks again! :)

Most economical would be three value rooms.
definitely but he needs only 2 - 4 plus 1 child (twice)

this is the cheapest - but you might drive everyone crazy

understand about being nervous - just remember the DVC member is generally nervous too.
