Most comfortable mattress you ever slept on

My concern is how much would you really be able to tell by laying on the mattress for 10 minutes in a store...while the salesperson stares at you? It may feel comfortable for a few minutes, but a nights' sleep...or many nights sleep...is an entirely different thing. It's almost like test driving a car, but even more difficult.

Most mattresses (or mattress stores rather) have a 30-60 day trial period with a small fee if you change your mind.

Both times I’ve bought a mattress I’ve just gone in and asked for the softest mattress available. I love them both. But the key for me is to then add great sheets and shroud the rest of the bed in down.

High end hotels tend to use soft pillow top beds, but they also have fantastic duvets and down pillows (if you don’t ask for a feather free room). It’s the combination IMO that makes a bed so comfortable. I think people go for practicality and price with regard to bedding at home.

So do they make mattresses that can not only adjust firmness, but be cool on one side and warm on the other? DW is always cold, I'm hot. It's almost funny...she's wrapped up like a mummy and I may have one thin sheet, if that.

Hmmm....if they don't make them, maybe I should create one. I could be rich!!!

Don't have an answer, but am tagging along to listen. DW has been talking about wanting to replace ours. Our current one is a pillow top that was what is used in hotels....

Jamison Resort Mattress. We were hesitant to buy a 100% foam mattress, but after 10 years of using it we couldn't be happier with our purchase. It doesn't get hot like memory foam and at 300 lbs, I've yet to make a dent in it. It's like sleeping on a cloud. It's what Marriott corporate uses in their hotels.

We had a Sealy Posturepedic TrueForm for the last 10+ years but recently my back has been hurting in the mornings so we figured it was time to replace it (I had to spend a week at a Marriott for work and I had no back pain).

We bought a Casper and hated it. They honored the 100 night free trial and picked it up. It was really no hassle.

Then we tried a Purple. We don't hate it but we don't love it either so it is also going back.

They don't make the Sealy anymore :'( so we're not sure what to try next.

In the Hilton Garden Inn just off I-80 in Elkhart, IN. After driving 9 hours I got there, flopped on the bed for a moment and immediately said I can not wait to go to sleep.

Looked it up online. Can't remember the name now. They were $3-6000. Way out of my league. It was something like an inner spring mattress on the top and air cushions on the bottom with a release valve. It would release air until a certain PSI so you had even support or something. All I know is it was pretty dang firm and so comfortable.

I like a mattress that is just slightly softer than sleeping on the hard wood floor. That's why I like camping so much when I bicycle tour. I get much better sleep on my sleeping pad on the ground than I do in cheap hotels.

Does anyone actually believe these "review" sites? They all seemed to be run by no one in particular and almost seem sponsored by "Product X" companies? I ran into this prior to the holidays when I was looking for reviews on bed sheets. There were various sites like "best sheets online" or "topsheets" etc that seemed to be sites that advertisers paid into to get on so their product would come up on a search. It was really tough to find an honest appraisal/vetting of a product. I had to rely on Good Housekeeping or other places that seemed to not be affiliated with an industry.

Yes, I wouldn't put much consideration into those web-sites.
But, they might make a good source for some general information.

I could never sleep on hard ground... But, we are like mrogers, we need SUPPORT, too much 'give' or sagging is just so painful to the back.
Gotta have some comfort for the joints, though. That is the big catch 22.... Finding BOTH.
Something firm, but with that couple inches of high quality padding, the kind that gives back... Like latex... Not just padding that will sink down into one thin hard layer, like memory foam or other standard padding materials.

A bed that sleeps like a nice high quality medium latex (not too 'soft' or 'firm') on a hardwood floor would be heaven!

We recently got a one inch Vytex 'soft' latex topper for our bed. Very nice... Look them up.
I can highly recommend these toppers.
It is really great! But, I am afraid that, after the last few years, our mattress just has too much 'give' and not the original support it had when it was new.

I get that. I have a latex topper now which I bought, and a thinner wool use both. I do love the latex topper so a latex mattress I am seriously considering. Did help our bed but still could be better and hoping for a new mattress if I can get past my nerves about it lol.
