Hello! We are needing to rent an ECV for 10 days in January for my DH. He'd like a 4 wheeler and wants to go as cheap as possible. He doesn't want to spend money on extras if he can help it and thinks he can just carry everything or "find a spot for it" somewhere on the ECV.

I'm trying to be practical. We will have a stroller with spots for our stuff, but inevitably he'll have his backpack, a drink, a snack, some stuff he wants on him but not in the bag...so I'm thinking drink holder, baskets, hangers, cane holder, etc.

My real dilemma is that we've never used an ECV. We don't know if there will be a spot for him to hang a backpack, or put a drink or snack. Most of the pictures I see don't seem to include these extras and from what I'm seeing on the websites, these extras really add up. He's got a cane and walking sticks, not sure which he'll bring, and I think we need a safe place for them.

I did plan to just bring some baskets I have, along with this cup thing I got at Ikea that cold hold a drink, and then just zip tie the stuff to the ECV. While I want a basket, I don't want to pay $5 per day for it's use if we don't need it.

So, is the zip tie thing an awesome idea, or just dumb, or illegal? Which accessories have you found useful and which would you skip, and why? And lastly, any suggestions on which 4 wheeler would be really comfortable? He's worried about stability, I'm worried about comfort. Does it make sense that when I'm looking at pictures, the ones with thicker seats and armrests would be better? Thanks!

I would go with a Pride Victory 10 scooter. They should be plentiful for rentals. They will not be the cheapest scooter you can get. The plus is that it has two batteries; so, it should easily last all day. Also, the scooter is bigger and more comfortable then the smaller ones and it's still a portable scooter. It can handle larger weighted people, too.

In the past we have used bungy cords to secure a backpack to the back side of the scooter seat.

A front basket is standard.

You can get cane holders and drink holders for extra cost.

Since you are new to ECVs keep in mind you should charge the batteries every night.

Thanks for the tip. We do need something portable as we'll be renting a car the last few days of the trip to go to the beach, and if possible I'd like to take taxis when we have dinner reservations to save us travel time with antsy, hungry kiddos.

The Victory is a heavier scooter, but it comes apart in about 5 pieces. You may have a local mobility store where you can take a look at it and have them demonstrate how it comes apart and together. Pride is a popular brand in many stores. You can do u-tube video and see it there by doing a search.

If it's too heavy for you then you can go with the smaller go go model but make sure you get the plus model. There are different go go models. Those scooters especially the heavier you are don't last as long and have one battery, not two.

I would call scootervactions dot com 855-939-7266 We chose the Snap at about $20 a day with the detachable foldable sun shade. This is a 3 wheel but they do have larger ones and 4 wheel about $35 one day less as days add on, oh there is a coupon on the Internet for a free day too. There is a large battery, basket, we were able to add a small cooler and placed our needs in the basket. The older mom had never operated one before but did practice on my husbands before we left. I knew I wouldn't be able to push her in a wheel chair. She had no problems or incidents at all, was comfortable and also enjoyed the sunshade that was in a light back pack on the back of the seat. The pop up used velcro to tie down on the handle bars, and it had adjustable slides to adjust the tilt. Folded easily away.

They delivary was to our rental door and showed the breakdown, recharging, how to use the controls and the sunshield. We were extremely pleased. I knew the lady friend was not going to hold up to all the long days of walking and was thrilled I thought to suggest and assist in the rental.
