Most bang for your dining?

Ok I was looking at the menus the other day and asked DH what he would order. He preceded to tell me he would order the most expensive because it is free. I think he might only do this a time or two till he realizes he would rather have something cheaper. Where is the most expensive ts and cs on the dining plan?

We feel we got very good value with a TS restaurant from Le Cellier. Our favourite CS was Seasons. The variety of fresh food is the best I have seen in any CS and possibly one of the most expensive. I would definitely include those two.

I kind of fall into this too.... I order the apps/meal/desert every time, for each person, no matter how hungry we are. Last time in '04 they were doing the Wishes Package, which meant that we did ALL TS!! I'm going to try to relax a little this time and try to order what I want, not the most expensive!!

That being said, I like to max out my meals by doing a dinner show. They are incredible and we always have such a good time!! Also, some of the all you can eat buffets, espeshially character meals are a great choice. Some of them are almost $40 a person with tip (the cost of one days plan!).

I would take a look at the restaurant menus and the various food and restaurant photo threads. Choose places that appeal to you. Choosing the most expensive thing on the menu every time may get monotonous if the menus are very similar- steak at every dinner gets boring .

We want variety and a relaxing environment. We very rarely order the most expensive thing, we just order what we like

Okay, the proper reaction should be to pat him gently on the back of the hand and say, "Of course, dear. That makes much more sense than ordering food you like".

As long as he is choosing the most expensive item that he actually likes, that is. I would find it silly to order something you don't want just because it costs more, but I think it's safe to say your dh will choose what he likes, of course

A lot of folks must have Le Cellier in mind, because when I went to make an ADR for Le Cellier for December, the CM said they are booked solid. It's booked up during the dates I asked about for free dining as well.

When you are on the DDP, why would you look at the right hand side of the menu? (prices).

Order what you want.

I seldom order the steak , which tends to be the highest priced. I can get a nice steak at ANY place, while some of the things on the menu at Disney are things I normaly do not have access to every day.

The goal of the DDP from the consumers stand point should NOT (imo) be to get the most "value", it should be to eat what sounds good to you.

So like I said, look at the left hand side , which has the food, and forget what the right hand side says.

I agree. When people ask DH about the DDP, and how he got the biggest ban for his buck, his response alway is, "You've never dinned out until you've been able to sit at a resturant, ordered a 3 course meal, and never looked at the right side of the menu. I felt like a star."

I believe if you price out most of the TS meals at practically every restaurant (adding in the tip and tax) you will have surpassed the daily outlay for DDP. Consider CS and snacks as "free." That's value-right?

Ok I agree with everyone of you. But When I showed DH a menu, he said he would order the duck? I asked why have you ever had duck, his words not mine "it is the most expensive thing on the menu!". I think after a time or two, he will quit looking at the prices and order what he wants to try or like.

Personally, I don't eat much steak, I plan to eat lots of hamburgers, pasta and chicken, which are the cheaper items.

I'm with you, Mrs. Piglet--a pasta and chicken kind of gal! Wouldn't matter to me if the steak costs double verything else. I don't like it, so I won't order it. I hope your husband likes his food. Like you said, he'll probably tire of the most expensive idea after a day or two. Enjoy!

The true worth of the dining plan is to have what you and the family want to eat at the places you want to eat at. That is the best bang for your buck.

You could also go to buffets and eat as much food as possible chosing the most expensive food items from the buffet.

There are only a few TS places where ordering a full meal won't exceed the daily cost of the dining plan, so there's really no reason to seek out the more expensive places or the most expensive menu items. However, looking at our spreadsheet, Coral Reef, Teppanyaki, and Le Cellier look to be the highest dollar TS meals. I don't price the CS in my planning, so I couldn't tell you which are the most expensive.

For me, the true value of the DDP was that DS-15 (insatiable "growing teen" appetite) and DD-17 (adventurous culinary student) could order ANYTHING they wanted off the menu....and mom (me) did not have to hyperventilate over the price!!!

That sounds just like the conversation I had with my 11 yo at the Cali Grill one night. I had to pay adult price for her DDP and all she wanted to do was order something off the child's menu. After pointing out things she would probably like off the adult menu, and getting nowhere, I gave up. So I'll swallow 2 TS credits for mac and cheese (or whatever she was ordering)....at least she'll eat and have a wonderful time. When the server came around to her, she spoke up and ordered the filet off the adult menu!!
