Any one know what the mosquito situation is at disney?
With all the water around--especially at POFQ and Epcot and DTD, etc.--are they around? I can remember my daughter saying that she got bit several times last time she was there. I don't remember last year. Are they spraying for them? Or are they just not a problem. I would hate to have to walk around with DEET sprayed on me all day.

They have been spraying a lot more than they did in the past (all over Florida, not just Disney). I am a CM and have not had a problem at all this season with mesquitos. I would bring the bug spray just in case you feel you want it, but it has not been an issue (no bites for me yet this season...knock on wood)

The mosquitos are there. There was a letter in our room explaining that FL DHEC (I think) has issued warnings about West Nile Virus. WDW is spraying, but there is only so much they can do.
I refuse to spray myself down with DEET, and DH is highly allergic. (He ended up in an emergency room last time he used it...)

My wife and I always comment that we have never seen any bugs at WDW, not even a mosquito and wonder how they seem to accomplish that. (Well, once we did have a small spider in our bathroom at the Polynesian, but that was it.) If they do spray, they must do it at night. We did see the landscapers at the Polynesian spraying for what I believe to be fire ants last August.

Go and have a good time!

Hi! I am one of those people who will ALWAYS get eaten alive by mosquitos, even if there is just one in the yard, and I didn't get a single bite during our August trip to WDW.
The only bugs we noticed were the roaches at the GF - there was one in the lobby, which I saw run in from outside, so it's not like the place is infested. They were definitely coming in from outside, and we stayed in the main building and didn't see a single roach anywhere but in the lobby right by the doors.
I was a bit concerned about mosquitos, and thought about bringing Off, but I'm glad that we didn't waste the packing space, since it wasn't necessary. I'm not at all worried about West Nile Virus, since I'm under age 80 :) , and only about 30 people in the entire US have died from it. I think that all of them (or most at least) were the elderly.
Cheers!

We were there 2 weeks ago... surprisingly, we didn't see ONE mosquito, and if there had been any within a 5 mile radius, it would have found DH and bitten him repeatedly! We didn't wear any repellant, either...of course it was actively raining in the evenings when they are usually prevalent, so that could have kept them to a minimum. Just take your repellant, and you should be OK!

I don't think these are roaches - I think the are called palmetto Bugs!

My sister and I were talking about this the other day, when we were there in July (at CBR) we didn't see any mosquitos, even at night walking back to out roomover the little island. But than we decided that it was so humid and the air seemed so heavy they probably couldn't get in it to fly.

Thanks for all the reassurances. A few years ago at the WL while waiting for a bus after dark, I got bit by something that left a huge welt for several days and itched like the dickens. I am one also that gets bit as if I had a neon sign on that reads "bite me".
Hopefully we are heading to the end of this mess.
