I will be going in Aug and it's my first trip, do I have to bring mosquito repellent spray?

We went last August and never used it. (And didn't get bitten!)

The only time we ever needed it was when staying at a Tree House Villa back in the 80's. And boy, did we need it. Maybe they have "Disney-fied" the woods since then. Don't know. But as far as the resorts and parks are concerned, no. You won't need it.

We have done 4 trips to Disneyworld over the past 3 years and I have never taken mosquito repellent. We went in August 2 years ago and I don't remember even seeing a mosquito during our 9 days there.

Have a great trip! and Welcome to the Disboards!:)

No need for bug repellent at Disney! They spray, and it works well.

I've gone six or seven times in September/October, and have never needed bug spray. Brought it the first couple of trips, but stopped bringing it in later trips. More room in the suitcase!

We have never taken mosquito spray with us to WDW, but this last trip a couple of weeks ago, I wish I had. Of course, this time was different in that we went over to Fort Wilderness to fish, and we stayed until dark. We got a few bug bites that night. The next night, my sons went to fish at OKW where we were staying, and my older son got several bug bites! He ended up with 29 total on his legs!!! I felt so bad for him and wished I had brought spray.

Now that being said, if you are just going to the parks, I don't think it will be a problem. We went to the parks the next day and didn't get any bites. I guess it depends on what you are going to be doing. If you will be walking into the grass to fish by a lake, YES!

We've been there 8 times and never been bitten either. Never seen bee's either- even with all those flowers. Disney's magical.

Disney's magical.

I wish I had that magic in my back yard:) I can not sit out there for more than 2 minutes without getting about 20 bites. Mosquitos LOVE me. However, in all the years I have been going to Disney I have never gotten a single bite.

If you are "casual" bug repellent user, no you probably won''t need it.

But every now and then someone will post on here that they got mosquito bites at WDW.

So, I always bring it and always wear it. If there is a mosquito within miles they will find me and bite me, and my kids are the same way. It is actually the family joke that I don't stick my toe out of the door without OFF, and it's true.

Everyone else seems to wait until they get bitten or see swarms before they spray themselves. Not me. I spray first and ask questions later. For me, waiting for bugs to be seen before applying repellent is like waiting till you are red before applying sunscreen.

I haven't needed bug repellent since our stay at Fort Wilderness in the late '80s. I'm a mosquito magnet but luckily I never get bitten while at WDW! Like other posters said, it might depend on where you're going to be.

My DH is a bug's dream. If there's a mosquito within a 10 mile radius, it will hunt down him. He has never gotten mosquito bites while at Disney World.

In the 14 times we've been to WDW, the only time we had trouble with mosquitoes was one year at Thanksgiving. We had gone to Fort Wilderness for the Chip and Dale sing-a-long.

We never wear mosquito spray, but the mosquito repellant with sunscreen sounds good. Another thing I had considered is buying the mosquito repellant wipes to carry in the backpack in case we needed them.

We've also never been bitten at Disney in all of our trips. My youngest has a slight allergy to mosquito bites (more than typical). He swells quite a bit around the bite. We've brought bug spray but never needed it.
He was bitten on his ankles and feet after playing in the sand at the resort. I have since been told this was likely sand fleas. It was maybe 6 or 7 bites and didn't happen again once we stayed out of the sand.

I've never had problems with mosquitoes, so I would have to say no. Do watch out for yellow flies though, as I'm not sure when they peak.

People on this board always say that there is no need for bug repellent at WDW. I can say for a fact that there are bugs at WDW. As we all know, some people could stand in a swarm of mosquitoes and never get bit. There can be one mosquito within ten miles and I will get bit.

The mosquitoes are there. Mosquitoes tend to be found near water, wooded areas and around large areas of plant life. Most of the theme parks do not meet those qualifications, thus, no mosquitoes in the park, or so it seems. Also, people tend to stay on the move which makes it less likely to be bit. If, however, you set on a bench in a quiet area of one of the parks near water, you may very well get bitten. They are there.

You are more likely to get bit at a WDW resort than in the parks. The reason being that the resorts are much more overgrown with vegetation than the parks. Again, people don't hang around outside that much, so they don't tend to notice them. They are there.

While Disney does a wonderful job of keeping things under control, they can't totally control the bug population. This is a sub-tropical area. We have a lot of mosquitoes.

All this being said, if you are the type that mosquitoes like, bring the repellent. If you don't need it...great. Better to have it than end up miserable.

I have never been bitten by ANYTHING at WDW. Or florida for that matter. In the parks we have never spotted anything more worrisome than a couple of geckos or squirrels.

We stay offsite next to SeaWorld, and walk down a path next to a big stagnant pond and forest to get to it, and I haven't noticed anything particulary annoying even there. Maybe we just have good luck? :confused3

I never bother with bug spray myself. Maybe its a personal thing.
