Mosquito repellent and bite/itch relief

Sorry if this is on the wrong thread......I have to know what the best thing you all have used to repel Mosquitos! I am Diabetic and Mosquitos LOVE me....two years ago we were at DW watching Rivers of Light and I got bitten 35 times! my last three days and nights at DW were ABSOLUTELY MISERABLE because of the itching and scratching.
SO....what do you use to repel those little buggers AND if you get bitten, what do you use for relief?

Personal opinion here - but I've had no luck with any product except those that contain DEET (I've used Cutter and Off). Others have recommended to me ones with 20 percent picaridin - but I honestly haven't tried one yet.

I've personally never had any luck with other oils that tend to be natural repellents - ineffective for me. The over the counter hydrocortisone creams have "helped" some in relieving the itch for me, but calamine seems useless to me (though my SIL likes it). But nothing gives a ton of relief.

You could consider taking a light weight long sleeve shirt to put on at night if you are going to be sitting. I can ignore bites on my legs, but I'm much more sensitive to ones on my arms.

You must be a big attracter of them - as I don't think I've ever gotten a mosquito bite at WDW. My backyard? Yes.

I actually have not been bitten in the past but when we went to see the show, there was a big bottle of mosquito repellent outside the theater and of course never been bitten at Disney....I ignored it! I cannot tell you how excruciating those bites were! I had welts on my legs for a week! I tried EVERYTHING to get the itching to stop! I have been told by some people to use the ones with picaridin instead of DEET also Benadryl gel and pills/liquid....I'm getting them both! Thanks for the super fast reply!

I get eaten alive normally and used the Off bug repellent wipes. Zero bites.

As above, repellents with DEET are the best. For the itchy bites, try Campho Phenique - works great for us and smells good too!
ETA Oil of lemon eucalyptus is supposed to be good too, as well as the picaridin.

I’m diabetic and mosquitos love me too. I have experienced bites at WDW many times. I now use a product called Natrapel Wipes. I used to use Deep Woods Off but I read an article that these were better for you. I carry one in my purse at all times but I put it on, primarily my exposed legs, right before dusk. I have bought them at Target, REI, and Amazon. Nice little flat packages. However, this is my favorite method for bite relief. Heat. At home, I often dampen a small towel and put it in the microwave for about a minute. I then apply it to the bite, it will be hot, and press down until it cools down which will be quick. No kidding, this takes away the itchiness for hours and I can sleep thru the night without a problem. At WDW, I don’t always have access to use this method, in a restaurant I’ve asked for a cup of hot water normally used for tea and dipped a spoon in the water and then applied it to the bite, this worked pretty well too. However, last year I bought a new product Bite Away Electronic Insect Sting and Bite Relief online. I think they sell them thru Target and Amazon too. It was pricy, about $40 but worth it as I can carry this around in my purse. It’s the same idea, applies heat to the bite but it works for me. This way I can zap my bite before I start to itch it and then it gets worse. I’ve tried everything over the years but I am finally satisfied with this method.

For bites I take zyrtec. It works better than benadryl on me. I also spray the bites with Tecnu rash relief spray. Tecnu is designed for poison ivy, but it works on mosquito bites, ant bites, bed bug bites, spider bites and bee stings.

We use Sawyer spray that has picaridin as the active ingredient. It is a bit pricey but works extremely well and is DEET free. My husband also is a mosquito magnet but hasn’t had any issue when using the spray

Last year in February we were at AKL waiting for a bus at night. Then the bugs attacked! I didn’t bring anything with me but it reminded me to next time bring Benadryl anti-itch cooling spray. It works great. I was in a mountain lake area a few years ago & got bit a lot by these huge bugs. Don’t know what they were, but they itched like crazy!

Lavender oil and Lemon oil. Go to a pharmacy and look for oils that you can put on your skin. Smells better than Off or Cutter (although DEET based products work), and the smell of those two products is terrible.

For the bites, I need the strong stuff so I use Neosporin + Pain Relief. Or, there are also these wipes that look like the wet-nap things you get at a restaurant, called Safetec Sting Relief wipes.

This one was recommended to me by a farm worker that says they get carried away if they don't have it on. Everybody around us was swatting the whole time and we were like what mosquitos.

We were in Disney Springs waiting for a bus when I got attacked by Mosquitos! Oh my gosh! I didn't have anything with me since I had never had that issue before! thank you all for the tips...I WILL be using them for sure!
