Mosquito control?

I know Florida is mosquito infested this time of year. Does Disney have control of this or are guests encouraged to pack bug spray? I've visited in early spring before, but not in heavy bug season.

I've visited Disney in pretty much every season and never worn bug spray and as far as I recall never been bitten. I'd be careful off property though.

Disney has a lot of different ways to control mosquitoes but additionally they are still giving out free bug repellent (in cream form) at all parks so no need to worry and bring any yourself

We were just there and did get a few bites, sitting outside on balcony at BCV watching fireworks. We brought spray with us, didn't use it the first night, but did after that.

I've been to WDW a great many times, in all seasons, and rarely has anyone in our group come home with a bug bite despite not wearing bug repellant, staying out late, and groups of ten.

I can also confirm that we recently saw WDW offering free bug repellant in the parks.

I am always amazed that I never get bug bites at WDW. We've been at various times of the year, and no one in my family has ever gotten even one bite. At home we can't even walk out to check the mail without getting bit.

I am 34 years old and have been to Disney nearly every year since I was born at various times of year including summer. Never had I gotten one. single. mosquito bite. UNTIL...Sept 21st-25th. My husband and I came home absolutely covered from head to toe in bites. From our research, there was a huge boom in the mosquito population after Irma (excess standing water, etc) that Disney mosquito control, and Florida in general hadn't had time to catch up with. Had I known that before our trip I would have brought Sawyer Picaridin lotion. It's the best. No point in using anything else.

All that being said, we can safely assume that all bites were received outside on our balcony or patio at night because our early-to-bed toddler didn't get one bite the whole trip. So if you're not going to be out at night sitting on a balcony, you'll most likely be fine. I think we got a few one night at the pool, but nothing compared to our balcony bites! Ha.

Disney has a world class pest control team. I've never worn bug spray at Disney and I don't think I've ever been bitten by a mosquito

I’ve been bitten while watching Fantasmic. Everyone in close proximity to the service dog sitting in the area was being bitten - I’ve never seen so many people slapping themselves.

I’ve also been bitten while walking through Fantasyland, while waiting outside of Splash, and while walking from the DVC parking lot of GF to Citricos.

I now carry and use Off Wipes and wasn’t bitten on our recent trip 9/18-9/26.

I've been bitten by mosquitoes on a few WDW trips, including at some deluxe resorts, and at the Magic Kingdom, and also saw lots of mosquitoes at the Ft. Wilderness campfire. I've read on other threads here that as a result of Hurricane Irma, currently WDW has even more mosquitoes than are typical for this time of year.

I agree with the above posters. I’ve been to DW since ‘79. Never ever ever had a problem until after Irma.

I've been to WDW over a dozen times, at various times of the year, and had never received any bug bites until our last trip. We were there for Irma, arriving the Friday before and staying the entire following week. My DD and I both received tons of mosquito bites. We got them at Bay Lake, and at each of the 4 parks. It was really bad.

After the storm apparently mosquito population has been up 52x what it usually is in some areas

Same here, never had a single bite before my trip Sept 19-27. Mostly happened at Animal Kingdom. I wore bug spray too.

I'm on the don't get bitten side, and I spend a lot, I mean a lot, of time outdoors all over WDW.

Fantasmic is where I got stung by a wasp!
