Nah, it's a fad.
I just had my first Moscow mule yesterday.
I live in TX but am visiting family in Idaho. My sil called it a "moss-cow" mule.
There's a town, Moscow Idaho(pronounced "moss cow") so I thought it was a local made-up drink. It took me awhile to realize that it was "Moscow" Russia (vodka)
Anyway never heard of it, can't wait to make one for friends back home!
That's kind of my point. The drink has been around since the 40s. The sudden popularity (as evidenced by this thread) and the copper mugs in every bar, that's the fad part. Hey it's a good drink. I prefer a Dark and Stormy myself. I'm just not going to rush out and buy copper mugs! That rock and roll music was a fad, too. Pretty sure the Mule has been around longer.![]()
