Just got dropped off at MCO by ME. We checked our bags in at hotel. All we had on bus was stroller. Unfortunately I had no bills smaller than a 20 on me, and I wasn't going to tip the driver $20 for getting our stroller. As I thanked him he gives me a dirty look in front of a dozen other passengers and says "Thank you sir. You're very kind." I felt bad enough about not having any small bills on me, but that was completely unprofessional of him. That's the feeling of Disney I was left with aftet just having spent thousands of dollars on vacation.

He should not have said that. I will bet you do not forget the small bills next time.

I wonder if this was a "had to be there".

As far as giving you a dirty look in front of other passengers, the last thing I'm worried about is what kind of look the driver gives other passengers.

It sounds like you were both in the wrong. I bet you the guy gets back on the bus and he's thinking "these people just spent thousands on a Disney vacation and they couldn't pay a couple dollars for a tip".

DW & I were in Cozumel for a cruise. We took a cab to a local park. It was supposed to be $11. We got to the park and I had a couple $20s. The cabbie didn't have change. Fortunately DW had a $10. He took the $10 but I could tell he was upset. My fault.

Next time I'll take Happy Limo both ways. I'd rather tip those drivers 20% for doing something than tip a rude me driver for doing nothing.

You're probably reading too much into it because you felt guilty for stiffing him.

Drivers should expect more of this with the lack for carrying cash Disney has put in place. Maybe they should put scanners on me buses to tip drivers.

I didn't stiff him. He did nothing deserving of a tip.
I thought the reason you didn't tip him was because you didn't have any small bills. Now it's because he "did nothing deserving of a tip"?

Did he put the stroller under the bus? Did he get it out? THAT'S what he did that deserved a tip. I am as "anti tipping" as anyone, but is customary if someone handles your bag to tip them.

I felt bad I didn't have any small bills, and though I would have tipped him because I always do, he did nothing worthy of a tip. He did his job. Do we tip Disney bus drivers for tsking us to the park? Do people on scooters or wheelchairs tip Disney drivers?

Perhaps you are reading too much into it. I was appalled when we were at the number of visitors who didn't say please or thank you.

If he helped with a small stroller and you said thank you, he might have appreciated it. Dirty looks are highly subjective.

You can make that argument about ANY tipped position... they were just doing their job, why do I need to tip them? It is CUSTOMARY to tip people who handle your luggage. This includes the RAC folks, curbside check in folks at airports, and porters on cruises.

Yes, the guy was rude. Yes, you were rude by not tipping him. You're now coming up with excuses of why he didn't deserve a tip, but you flat out say if you had small bills you would have tipped him. :confused3 If he didn't do anything to deserve a tip, why would you have tipped him if you had the appropriate bills?

ETA: If I stopped using any service because of 1 employee I had a bad encounter with, I wouldn't do anything.

So which is it (asked in a polite modulated tone)?

If you always tip then "he did nothing worthy of a tip" is an excuse to absolve yourself of the guilt you may feel for not done something you always do.

And here is the "I don't want to tip because people are just doing their job".:confused3 school of thought.

I'm not a fan of tipping either; however, I think the OP is reading a slight where one may not have occurred. And if a "dirty" look was intended and the comment made was snarky in tone--I'd be glad I'd withheld my tip and not give it a 2nd thought.

You are right driving you to the airport is his job and doesn't deserve a tip. However putting bags, to include strollers, under ther bus and retrieving them is what you do tip for. Since all you had was $20s you should have asked him if he had change for a $20. More than likely he would have, but then you would have 18-19 ones. In any case even if he didn't have change he would have known that you weren't trying to stiff him.

You are responsible for paying the full fare. But for tips, if worst comes to worst, the provider has to provide the change. In the Magical Express tip case, the guest should at least have asked about change. This way the driver won't think, "these people ust spent thousands ..."

There is no love affair for cabs worldwide because of the unfriendly way money is handled in lots of situations. Too bad the cab industry can't come up with a "cashless" system where all the numbers are known in advance. Including "flat" rates for trips between common or popular locations.

(OT) Who wants to contribute to a list of places where you can get change for the most common output of an ATM, a $20., and not have to spend much of it in the process.

I'll start. 1. Bank tellers (Sorry, no repeats allowed.)

This was a flat rate for our trip. It was posted before we got in the cab. I had $60 (I think), it was just all in $20s. So I had enough to cover the fare (AND give a tip). However, the cabbie said he didn't have change.

As far as your list, aside from a Bank...
2. A friend/coworker/other person

I think other than those two, you'll need to purchase something in a shop.

ME drivers are employed by Mears, not Disney. ME drivers are a tipped position. I always give them a couple of bucks even though I never store luggage. They never do "nothing", they get us safely to and from the airport.

Really? Anyone who handles baggage, strollers etc IMO deserves to be tipped, it is just a simple courtesy.

To avoid the issue of not having small bills in the future, what I do is before we leave on vacation I stop at the bank and get small bills, based on what tips I know I will need. 1's, 5's & 10's, Placing this money in a separate envelope I always have tip money.
