More WDW people *not* heading to DLR, a PTR update 3/5/12

Day 1 (arrival day) could be something exciting  like frozen pizza.
Day 2 could be homemade macaroni and cheese, which could work well in the delay-bake oven.
Day 3 we may grill out on those beautiful gas grills.

Day 4 will likely be Ariel's, as DH gave the :thumbsup2

In-N-Out would be fun to try. It could turn into my CA version of Chick-Fil-A (which is also a chain that we don't really have in IL and therefore is a must-do at least once per FL road trip). Yes, I would like to avoid the DEDZ :rotfl:

So here it is....the definitive on the menu!!!!

So would protein style work?

It would, although she would probaly skip the lettuce wrap part and just have a patty.

Are we settled on In n Out for your D1 dinner or is frozen pizza still there? A few of us following your PTR were discussing purchasing CPK at a grocery story (Vons) on another thread.

After several minutes of trying to make CPK into a biochemistry term, I think it stands for California Pizza Kitchen. Am I right?

 Sarah's doing a split stay between HoJo and GVC!

Don't mind me! I'll return to the sidelines popcorn:: and sleep :cloud9:.

Yup, exactly right! Thus the need for kitchen and non-kitchen meals.

I must say, you had me cracking up at the discussion of my dinner menu. DH thinks I'm nuts, so I am glad that I have found my people. ::yes::

You'll have to excuse us! We each often enjoy having the LAST word on many discussions, but we're more than happy to speculate on another's TR! And of course offer assistance and encouragement! Yes, if you're looking for neurotic planners, you've found us! In addition to the multiple DLR and WDW trips I'm planning PIO and I are planning a DISmeet trip for 2013 with some others who are on the games forum.

So we're happy to tag along with you here! It's coming a lot sooner than some of the things we have in the works!

Pretty soon the OP will have a full page in her TR with only posts by other people planning her meals.

Well....if you would help out with more sideline comments, we can definitely make this reality! :lmao:

No, we're just reiterating her posts, if we weren't so lazy we could probably go back a couple pages and find what she plans for dinner!

That's the problem. I did go back to check what she planned for dinner. But it was the fact that she was doing a split stay that threw me. I could have sworn I was reading (as you found) "Day 1 - Frozen Pizza or the like; Day 2 = Mac N Cheese". And then there were all these references to In N Out burgers....which didn't fit what I was reading....

oh never mind...we're probably already cooked enough bacon on (aka hogging) Sarah's PTR enough already.

Yes - CPK is California Pizza Kitchen. I understand that you can find it in the freezer section of some supermarkets. franandaj and/or skiingfast can confirm which; if you were interested.

Don't mind us. franandaj, skiingfast and I (together with a couple more Lasters) hang out together on a couple of threads...so we tend to have an undertone of cornball happening. Tell us to stop if we're overstepping the mark....and I'll go back to lurking and eating corn...pop, that is. popcorn::

Hey, customer service at Ralph's got back to me (although you guys answered my questions much sooner) :rotfl:

Thank you for contacting Ralphs. In response to your inquiry, you may use your Hilander Card at Ralphs to receive advertised discounts and fuel points.

If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your patronage.

Sincerely,

Catherine Derby
Consumer Affairs

So, we're good to go. :thumbsup2

Also, DH thinks that frozen pizza on arrival night is not exciting enough. There are a couple of skillet meals I can make that do not require exotic ingredients or fancy meat, so we will probably do one of those.:banana:

Today it was announced that our local Hilander (owned by Kroger) stores were purchased by Schnuck's. I am quite bummed , because not only does it mean less competition in my town, but it also means the end of the Kroger perks, many of which I used for our trips. I loved being able to buy gift cards (Disney, Visa, etc.) and then get points to get money off when buying Shell gas. Since we drive on vacation, it was really nice. I will miss that :sad1:

That's a shame....especially after you'd lined the member perks up with Ralphs. Maybe they will still honour the card.....

Well, that absolutely stinks.

If you end up wanting to go to Ralph's, I can always give you my # to get the discounts. But that sucks! :headache:

Thank you! :flower3:

Well, since Kroger will still exist, my card may still work. I am going to try it when we travel to FL in December and see if I have any luck. If it works, I will just keep it for vacation. That is what I do with my Winn Dixie card, as we don't have those this far north.

Just had a little reminder about my DLR vacation!

I was contacted about my work availability around Thanksgiving and Christmas. I was very happy to let the scheduler know that I am NOT available December 30 in the AM. This is because I have a date with DVC Member Services to book 3 nights in a 1 BR at VGC :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Love it when these little reminders just pop up out of nowhere! :thumbsup2

Just doing a little daydreaming...:goodvibes

I was reading the VGC thead on the DVC boards tonight, and I was reminded that the 1 BR has 2 full bathrooms. I just had to go to AllEars and admire pictures of the showers

I have also started working on our San Diego hotel. My conference just released their "official" hotel list, and the average is ~$250.00 per night :scared1: I am going to try hard to do better than that!

I am at the VGC right now. We were here Wednesday night in a 1 BR and then came back Friday in a studio for 2 nights. As we woke up this morning in a queen size bed (after remarking how wonderfully comfortable the King Size bed was Thursday morning) :headache:, and then (even though there are only two of us) really wishing we had two bathrooms, we began to rethink our reasoning for staying in studios and weighing the benefits of a 1 BR vs buying more points! :lmao: If you had been following my PTR you would know that earlier this year, we practically doubled our points after receiving a refinancing loan. You would understand how ridiculous this notion is! But still we began considering it, enough for me to figure out if we could get by on our points that we currently have if we started to get 1 BRs in CA as well as FL! :lmao:

Believe me, you will love  the layouts of the VGC!

After much research last night, I found a hotel in San Diego that was a reasonable distance to the convention center, had a pool, and cost less than $200 per night. In addition, the room has a microwave and fridge and offers complimentary continental breakfast. The hotel also gets decent reviews on TripAdvisor.

We are staying at ...

Best Western Plus Bayside Inn

After much discussion with DH, we decided to book Friday in San Diego and cancel 1 night at HOJO in Anaheim. For the price diffference, it will be worth it to not be "homeless" in San Diego on Saturday. Besides, it is much easier to be homeless at DLR! :rotfl2:

Oddly enough, when I changed the HOJO reservation to 1 night, I got a slightly cheaper rate. :thumbsup2

Yes, I read about you needing more points! :rotfl2:

Hey, I got under 300 days, and I wasn't even paying attention!

I've had a couple of busy weeks of life, which will be followed by a couple of busy weeks at work. I am sure I will be lurking some in my downtime. :surfweb:

Happy upcoming trips to all! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

In listening to some DIS Disneyland podcasts, I am really interested in going to DLR around Halloween (and I haven't even been there at all yet)! :rotfl:

Really though, if I had to pick a holiday time, it would be Christmas, my favorite holiday :santa: I loved being at WDW last year in December, and my whole family would enjoy the overlays at HM and IASW. We are big Nightmare Before Christmas fans around here, and we have watched the DVD extra about the HMH probably more times than we have watched the movie

Since we are going back to WDW in 43 days (since it is a surprise trip for the kids, no ticker), I am trying to decide what items I should bring home from the Owner's Locker to take to California next year. We got the locker in the first place because there were some items (Brita water pitcher, glow sticks) that seemed silly to haul back and forth. However, it is also silly to buy new things to take to California that we wouldn't use at home. Our next trip after this one will likely be Universal +/- a Disney cruise in 2013, and we probably will be driving, so I will probably end up taking some items from the locker back home after this trip.

I have to tell you the water in the Disneyland area has an awful taste. I usually get bottled water. Does the Brita help with that? Your WDW trip is getting so close!!
