Are there any other Disney Water Parks besides Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach? My husband says there's 3 but I can't for the life of me think of any others.

There used to be three however River Country, the third closed at least 10-15 years ago.....it's located by Fort Wilderness.

Is he perhaps thinking of Stormalong Bay?

Well, come to find out...he WAS thinking of River Country. Guess he didn't realize that it closed. LOL Thanks!!!

River Country was, as far as I know, the first water park open anywhere. It opened June 20, 1976. It closed down in November of 2001. One day I hope they re-open it in some form or another. I used to go all the time and loved it!

Apparently the reason they closed it was because they were using river water, rather than cleaned water, so when problems with these illness inducing amebia came in, they had to close it down. They wanted to make the water chlorinated, but both the chlorine leached out, and the bugs leached in.

So i doubt it will re-open any time soon, and remember, DON'T SWIM IN THE LAKES AT DISNEY!

OMG!!! It looks SO awesome!!!!! I wish I could go........ STUPID LAKE WATER!!!!!!

Oops I forgot to say that I think that they should give tours of River Country for people who weren't there when it was open.

It closed a few months after 9/11. We were at WDW (staying at CR) about 2 weeks before 9/11 and it was open.

Don't swim in the lakes or ponds anywhere in Florida! Besides the amebia, just assume there is at least one gator and possibly a water moccasin, or two in there. There may not be, but you don't want to find out the hard way. We sometimes see gators in ponds no bigger than a good-size swimming pool. I've heard of them occasionaly getting into a pool, but at least you can see them before you jump in.

BTW, one thing I just learned a little over a month ago was that River Country originally had a wave that was generated from Discovery Island. At least that's what the boat driver told us when he pointed out the stone wall remains on Discovery Island.

The wave machine was actually on an island over by the Polynesian. They stopped using it because the waves eroded the beach.

The otters have their keggers at River Country. Never get between an otter and his beer! It's still there fenced in and rotting.

Oh I used to love River Country. We went the year it opened. Those rides on the tubes through the bumps - :rotfl2: and then you would fly into the water from about 6 feet up. OH THE WHOOP AND HOLLER HALLOW!!!
Ah that was FUN!! But yeah now with the bacteria issues in florida water no way no how. I guess I am lucky to have survived it.
