more ?s from first timer at Universal

We are a family of 5 dh, me, ds(18), dd(13), and dd(9).

I need advice on hotels, restaurants, must do things. If it helps when it comes to Disney our favorites are Everest for rides and restaurants like Garden Grill and LTT. For hotels our favorite is POFQ.

I also need to know about reservations at restaurants? Does it work like Disney?

Thank you for any info you can give me. I feel so out of the loop planning this trip.

If your kids favorite ride is Everest they will love Universal. My kids DD 13 and DS 10 are adrenaline junkies and they prefer Universal over Disney. We always stay at the on site hotels so they can ride them over and over again. I have stayed at POFQ and I like the Universal hotels better because they are not so spread out and you can walk to the park. If you are going at a slow time of the year you could stay offsite and still have a great time. My DW prefers Universal because I tend to go Commando at Disney and run her legs off. Universal is a much more relaxing vacation for us.
Our favorite restaurant is Mythos but I don't think I've had a bad meal anywhere at the parks.

since one of your kids is 18, you will have to pay $25 extra per night over room costs as only 2 adults are free.
total in room is 5.

18 and over is considered an adult.


but if you were rounded out the kids ages and that child is not yet 18, a 17 yo does not have an extra charge.

it would be considered then 2 adults, 3 kids.


if you plan to go to uo during the summer months, you might want to do a 30 day out ressie at mythos.
mythos is a sit down restaraunt in ioa.
