When is the Captain's Reception? The cruise brochure says that is it a "black-tie optional" event. Does that mean evening wear and tuxs? Is is the same night as the Formal Dinner? Do kids go to the Reception as well?

Do guys wear the tux for the Semi-Formal dinner also? DH has AGREED (!) to rent a tux for the trip, and now he wants to get his money's worth and wear it as much as possible!

Thanks, everyone!!

The Captain's reception is on the night of the Semi-Formal Dinner. For the western cruise, that falls on Thursday night.

The Semi-Formal dinner is suppose to be evening wear and suits/tux, but you'll see a wide range of attire - right down to shorts and t-shirts (although they are clearly in the minority). Tell your DH to wear the tux. He shouldn't feel out of place.

Depending on whether you have the early or late seating, you'll go to the Captain's Reception right before or after dinner. So, you'll be dressed appropriately for both events.

Deb, if I am remembering right, it is on the same night as formal night, but I am not totally sure. Yes kids are welcome. You will be able to get free drinks (with or without booze) for about an hour or so.

Deb, my husband and son wore tuxes for the formal and the semi formal dining nights. We rented them from downtown at Bremer's across from the old capitol. Dakota was able to get a mickey mouse vest and tie. It was about $180 for both, and that included everything but the socks. They also didn't charge us extra - we were gone a total of 11 days, and they only charged us for a week. I would recommend them.

Thanks!

Sue, I'll go check out Bremer's. Thanks for the tip!

Hope you stayed cool this past weekend! It sure was a scorcher, wasn't it?

sure wish that would be it for the heat around here, but we still have a long ways to go before the end of summer.

The guy who fits the tuxes (i can't remember his name off hand) was very good to work with. I know that you can also rent them from some formal wear place that delivers to the cruise ship, but then you don't get them fitted...Some folks don't like to lug that stuff along...good luck on whatever you decide.

On the Eastern, the Captain's Reception is on Sunday, the formal night on which the Master Chef's Menu is served.

Wow, I'am glad to see that some wear tuxes to the semi formal too. I bought tuxes for my husband and two boys off ebay (alot cheaper than renting, although I have to pack them) And want to get my $$$ worth!
What is my hubby to wear to Palo??
