Okay now that we're taking the plunge and switching to POR (first time at moderate previously only stayed at deluxes), we're getting really excited about it. Of course saving $1000 give us some reason to get excited, but also from what we've been reading POR seems like a good place for small children. We'll 2DDs and 1 DS (6, 5 and 3) with us, so here are some questions - do I have to bring towels for the pool, or does POR supply them? Can you see the fireworks from DTD anywhere at POR or do you have to take the boat over to DTD? Do you need PS for Boatwright's for breakfast or dinner, and do you like the food there? How good is the food court? We requested BLdg. 18 but I see a lof of people asking for 14 or 15. Any recommendations? Final question - we booked a water view, are there any good 1st floor water view rooms or would be just as well off with standard view? We wanted the 1st floor because we have an umbrella stroller and a double umbrella stroller and who wants to lug that up another flight of stairs. We're looking forward to seeing Bob Jackson for the first time, going to Ol Man Island and I booked a carriage ride. Any other "can't miss" POR things you can think of? We'll be there July 20-26, hopefully the campfire program will be back. Any other DIS'ers at POR during that time frame? I'll tie lime green ribbons on our strollers!

I am sure you will love POR, its more rustic then the deluxes I have stayed at, but I did enojoy the "woodsy" atmoshere and the peace and quiet But you cannot see fireworks from there. Your kids will love the pool main pool, its got a great slide, and the resort does supply towels. The food at the food court was very good, but its been several yrs since I have stayed there, so I can't recommend much, that was before the rehab. If you aren't a smoker, make sure 18 is not a smoking building, can't remember if we stayed in 18 or not, but it was a smoking room since we did smoke, thats what we requested. Make sure you take the boat over to DTD, just to enjoy the boat ride, its very relaxing. Have a great trip!

If your kids like fishing :fish: you may want to check out the fishing hole. We usually go there and rent a pole or two for an hour, (it's catch and release) each pole is $4/hr or there is a family special.

I think Buildings 14, 15, and 18 are closest to the main pool but I don't know for sure, we've always stayed in the mansion area.
I would check out allears.net for more info and a map of the resort.

Don't forget you can use the pool at POFQ also, your kids may really like the serpant slide there.

Do you need PS for Boatwright's for breakfast or dinner, and do you like the food there?

>>Food there was delicious....Their omlets are so well prepared
And dont forget to try the strawberries and cream..
Ever since having this there it is now a summer tradition here at home to have and to remind us of being there....

the food court was great tooo......pizza, chicken, etc.
in the morning they have this little bakery area with fresh made danish, etc that was really good....

And also one of the last places on earth( well u cant find it here in new england all that much anymore) to get ROCKY ROAD ICE CREAM!!! its very yummy there

You DO NOT need reservations for boatwrights, if you get there early enough ( 7-9am ish) otherwise I really dont know how busy it gets there after 9.

This is one of our fave moderates. Boatwrights & the food court are very good. I might suggest a PS for breakfast as it gets pretty busy and then you dont have to worry.

18 is not a bad bldg, we prefer MB and feel Oak Manor & Parterre Place are just as close to the main bldg. 14 the FD tries to mainly give to guest with disabilities.

Think you will really enjoy this resort and dont forget the campfire.

just FYI....bldg 18 is a smoking building in case it matters. My dd has asthma so I've had to check out which ones are not.

We need an AB room because of the trundle bed. We requested a non-smoking room. Will that be an issue in Bldg. 18: Maybe I should call back and change it to 14 or 15. Can't wait to try out the campfire program. When I called POR the CM thought it would be coming back this summer. Aybody going to be at POR JUly 20-26? Thanks for all your help!

I don't know for a fact...but I have heard....there are non-smoking and smoking rooms in building 18. Even if you're in a non-smoking room, people can still smoke on the balcony outside your room so for us with dd's asthma that could be a big issue.

bldg 27 is a non smoking building...
right on the main path to the cafe and boatwrights...maybe 3 minutes walk....a very nice walk at the crack of dawn when you have all the ducks by the river, if u get a water view like we had...

I haven't been there in a few years, but I've had a couple of breakfasts and a dinner at Boatwrights and enjoyed every meal! My favorite breakfast is their banana stuffed french toast (artery clogging though!)...the french toast is stuffed with bananas, dipped in egg, and deep fried.

There is so much to do there...rent a bike, rent a boat and go down towards DTD, walk over to POFQ, etc. Keep an eye out for rabbits, we saw quite a few of them when we stayed there!

Our family stayed in building 14 in 2002. We loved it's proximity to the food court. We really used the mugs. The only downfall was the fact that we were on the second floor. I think I'd take a slightly farther walk to get the 1st floor. Lugging the carriage up the stairs is a HUGE pain.
The food court was great. Our family was somewhat impartial to Boatwright's - didn't love it or hate it.
Overall it's a great place to stroll and relax.

Hi Robyn,

Is Hamilton Square need the Hamilton Mall? I am originally from Cape May and graduated from Stockton.

POR was our first moderate after staying at the WL and CR. We love it! It is so peaceful and pretty. Be sure to take a walk around the grounds. Our last building had a rose garden with benches. I have no idea of building numbers, but it was one of the mansions.

The pool is great. You can rent life preservers at the marina for your entire length of stay. They were free, too. That saved alot of time, not having to get them everytime. We just turned it in when we were leaving.

The food court is wonderful. They also have a childrens section with disney stuff playing on tv and games for the kids to keep themselves occupied while you finish your food. The kids meals for breakfast were huge, definately shareable.

You and your kids will love Bob Jackson. He always gets the kids involved. Usually brings them up on stage to dance. We are going to see him this Friday night. Can't wait!!!!

Our room actually faced the parking lot, but it was great with the stroller. We could almost drive up to our room, unload and the DH went to park. Great for coming home with a sleeping toddler. Didn't have to carry her far.

I can't think of anything else. Have a wonderful time.
