look forward to your advice for planning our "SoCal Tour" trip 8/16-22. We'll be touching down at John Wayne at 9:30 am on 8/16 and heading to check in at the Portofino. That's a half day gone. Would you do DL that first day or head over to Knotts after check in and start Disney the next morning?

How many days will you be at DLR?

Personally, I have no interest in Knotts so for me the answer would be Disney. It might depend on if you have kids, what age, and does everyone like coasters?

I do want to do knott's but I would spend as much time possible at DLR. How else did you expect a disney nut to respond?

I would love to go to San Diego and see Seaworld and the zoo, but DLR sucks in me like a vortex. I can't go down there and not go to DLR! It is also hard to allow time for something else, but we really should one of these days.

I used to go to Knotts when I was little. Loved the Jelly ride, but that's gone now. I've read reviews on it and it just doesn't seem the same to me and I'd rather be at Disney. :goodvibes

we're spending 4 days at dl on our trip. My nephew wants to do the coasters so we'll be making a stop at knotts. My thought was that a half day at knotts on a sunday might be a better start than a half day at DL on a sunday. Also, to me it's always cool to start a disneyland trip at rope drop on the first day at the park.

That's like Orlando. I would love to go check out Universal Studios, Seaworld, etc. but I mean, if you're in Orlando....you gotta go to WDW!

Anyway, back to the original question, KBF is a great coaster lovers park. There are some really intense ones and quite a few mediocre ones that the whole family can enjoy, so there really is something for everyone.

If you have someone who wants to do the coasters, then that sounds like a good plan. And I think it is better to save DLR for last. :)

If you are going to Knotts, I would definitely do it before DLR! Have you considered going straight to KBF, and then checking into yor hotel in the evening? I just think starting in a park as early as possible will be the easiest.

Its been a couple of years since we did knotts just as they were bought out by six flags...

I would go there first enjoy the Sunday afternoon there with the fast rides, and chicken dinner. Then just enjoy DL, and make sure kids just know its two different parks - one is for a few faster roller coasters and the other is for a "whole" experience...theme, rides etc.

Enjoy

ok, for me its like this.... go to Disneyland, do a few days then head to kn otts and break up your trip. Knotts is a full day park, do not do half day :) we love knotts and find it so fun, but with the little one coming there is just no way we can do the coasters and watch him, so all disneyland this trip. but when we went 5 years ago we did 3 days in disneyland, then 1 at knotts and 2 more in disneyland. it broke up the trip and we had the best time ever.
I say go into disneyland, then head to kn otts for a full days fun!

The problem with this is that many people who try this strategy end up disappointed with KBF, just coming off of a Disney experience. People inevitably tend to compare the parks, when, in reality, they shouldn't be. KBF is a different experience than DLR; however, the amusement park atmosphere can appear to be "lower quality" or "cheaper" when one is coming off of a "Disney high".

also, if you have small kids with you, KBF doesn't seem worth the time or money, in my opinion.

i grew up going there, and enjoyed it, but when i took my own children, it felt like there was nearly nothing for them to do (too short for most rides), and the rides that they were tall enough for, were boring...like carnival rides.

we've never taken our kids back to KBF....i imagine we will at some point, but not until all of them are tall enough to ride anything they want.

if you don't have small kids going with you on your trip though, then KBF is worth visiting (i think if you decide to do a half day at KBF, there is a special "after 5" promo or something where the prices are half off).

This is a great point... you might want to do some more investigating to find out what your Nephew can and cannot ride. That way you can prepare him, and you can try to get him over the disappointment of not being able to ride something if he is not tall enough. I do have to agree with a PP though, stay and have a chicken dinner at KBF. That would be the only reason I would go there nowadays. I personally find the park to not be very appealing and not worth an entire day of our schedule. But that is just my opinion.
