More on Park Cleanliness (or lack thereof)

A while back I posted about going to Six Flags one day, and much to my dismay, there were trash cans full of garbage- when the park first opened! Well, I thought to myself, people complain about WDW not having the standards of cleanliness that it used to, but you would never find trash cans over-flowing with garbage at WDW, especially when the park just opened! WRONG!!!   My wife and I took some of her cousins down a few weeks ago. I had of course been bragging about how great Disney is, and how CLEAN, and on the very first ride we got on (Peter Pan), while we were in line, there it stood, in all its nastiness- a garbage can so full you could not have stuffed another thing into it if you had wanted to. I truly was dumbstuck- this was something that I NEVER expected to see at WDW. So I was not at all surprised when I read the post about the bottle at Splash. I think Disney best get on the ball- and clean up these parks! To me it is inexcusable! Thank you for letting me vent!

Just out of curiousity ... was the full trash can at WDW a singular sighting, or did you run into the problem all day long?

And, even though the trash can was stuffed full, was the area around it a general mess as well, or was it clean except for the trash can? (In other words, was the area just in need of a second trash can, or was the whole ride area in bad shape?)

A trash can like that -- stuffed to the gills -- is not excusable either way. And obviously, the fact that you saw it at the very first ride you went on didn't help your experience at the park overall. Just trying to determine whether the Peter Pan area overall was a mess or if the "big miss" was the trash can. That kind of info can help solve the problem.

Thanks!

Not quite the same topic, but when we were there last week, my friend (who is from NY as am I) said, "What... is Disney hiring panhandlers now too?" There in Epcot's France were two very scary looking guys who looked like they were homeless. I hardly wanted to walk past them and was shocked to see they were wearing CM badges. I think the appearance/costuming guidelines are definately slipping.

We get rid of people who work in the parks. Take their money and declair that as profit since we have a profit we give ME a increase in his pay rate and life is good. This is really the wrong way to run a business, but this is america and everyone is doing this. What a mess we are in.

When I posted my observations with regards to Disney's cleaning decline in the parks and resorts on another thread, the Pixie Dust patrol jumped all over me. Our last trip was in December, and we were very suprised to see trash laying around the parks. This was the first time we have ever witnessed anything less than perfect conditons in the parks. We also had issues with "mousekeeping"on our last 2 trips in 2003. Disney has let us down by not living up to it's own standards. However if the consumer does not complain to management, I am sure that things will only get worse.
Park Hopper Passes and stays at Disney's resorts are very expensive...the grounds and the resort rooms SHOULD be immaculate! ::MinnieMo

There were serious cleanliness issues on our last trip in August. The very first time ever that I walked into a restroom and immediately walked out because it was so disgusting. (The restroom was in Tomorrowland). Also, as mentioned on another thread, the gum stuck to the pavement was pretty atrocious - especially at the TTC.:(

On our last trip I was dismayed by the carpets in Disney Quest. They were absolutely filthy and torn up in parts. I couldn't believe it. For goodness sake, how much does it cost to replace carpets and keep them clean? You could pay for that with 1 day's worth of people's admission!

We also were surprised by the slide in cleanliness when we were there in December, but everything looked much much better over all when we were there last weekend. We wondered if in December everyone had been sidetracked getting all the holiday stuff in place and let other things slide? It seems there has been a lot of new paint applied in different parts of the park. Splash mountain is looking great and really has needed work for quite some time.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that we all noticed improvement when we were there this past weekend.
