I have never rented points before and trying to decide whether to rent or purchase annual pass and use discounts. Does anyone know the answers to these questions about renting points?

- Is tax included in the points calculation, or would I pay taxes in addition?

- By renting points, do I receive the same "benefits" as the member (like discounts on restaurants).

- If I rent a studio and get there and find it is too small, do I have any way of upgrading to a 1 bedroom?

Thank you in advance for your help!

There is no additional tax to pay when you rent points. It's not included in the calculation because there isn't any to pay.

You aren't supposed to get "the same" benefits but your "Key to the World Card" will say "DVC Member" on it. So if you present that, you may get the discounts. Some things like member pins require the Blue DVC Member Card however.

There is no way to upgrade to a 1BR once you check in on rented points. But if you had a regular hotel room at one of the resorts and found it too small when you arrived, what would you do then?

You are not entitled to Member discounts unless you are a member or the guest of a member. A person who pays a member to make a reservation for them is not considered a guest of the member. More and more frequently members are asked to show their member card along with their Key to the World card. Why would you even think you would be entitled to these discounts???

You can check out the rooms online in various locations to see what they look like to see if you think they might feel small to you.

If you have lots of reservations about having a member secure a reservation for you, maybe this isn't the way for you to vacation at WDW. You could always get an AP discount through Disney with the purchase of an AP.
