So rundisney just put on their website that only rundisney club level gold and platinum were going to get a chance at the early bib registration. They cut out DVC and AP. I am disappointed because this again was another perk for blue card members and was one of the things I used to considered blue card benefits. And before anyone says anything, yes I know the only thing is for sure is the room, blah, blah, blah. speech. But this was a nice perk that did not cost anything allowing us early access. They are really making it so there is no reason to buy direct.

Context for @Maistre Gracey: Note the title mentions "runDisney." Disney's foot races follow an industry standard of assigning each runner a "number" displayed on a physical bib pinned to the runner's outer clothing.

The OP is lamenting the loss of early runner registration as a former DVC blue-card perk.

Easy to see why you are disappointed. Hope you get to participate, anyway.

I wonder if they plan to really limit the number of runners and worry that allowing early registration for too many will fill up the race before it even opens for everyone?

Thanks for the explanation…
I think breakfast in bed would be a better perk, however. :teeth:

I am so glad that the OP wrote "yes I know the only thing is for sure the is the room, blah, blah, blah. speech." I hate it when folks say that. I think people say it as some sort of humble brag that the rest of us don't understand the universe. One may as well say, "you didn't die so stop complaining."

Yes, we all understand that the perks are not guaranteed. Guess what else isn't guaranteed? That the parks will be ever be open. Or that they will be clean. Or that the amount of alcohol served throughout the parks will not be vastly increased. Yep, that's right, they could close the parks or sell them to Apple or Universal, or turn them into huge bars, or just stop keeping them clean . . . and the only thing guaranteed is the room (blah, blah, blah).

There are certain expectations created by providing services and when they are removed there is a guest recovery issue. This is the whole reason why things are "grandfathered."

I have no interest in runDisney. That whole thing is a mystery to me. But people love it (Jen Lefforge, ughhh) so more for them. But I stand here on this hill willing to die (figuratively) for the elimination of "the only thing is for sure the is the room" being repeated in these hallow halls (boards). Thank you. :stir:

Rats! You mentioned "buying direct", but you said that DVC was cut out. So were ALL DVC members eliminated? What a disappointment-I remember when we were on a road trip, but made arrangements to stop at the nearest truck stop with free WiFi so that DH could get the Dopey Challenge a few years ago. Hate to lose this perk!

Initially I was thinking perhaps this was temporary due to the anticipated pent up demand. But the more I think about it............ bummer, not looking good.

That was my first thought- that the whole race would fill up with early reg but I don’t know? Convenient way to get rid of it if they were looking to do so.

Yeah not sure if this is just covid or will become a real thing... they have a club rundisney thing soo they may be trying to push people that way... but they are not allowing people to buy into it.

If they turned the parks into giant bars, and entry was a perk, I would buy direct.

It seems that---at least most of the time---that speech is directed at the folks still trying to decide between qualified and non-qualified ownerships. That's sometimes true even in the context of a thread like this, where an existing Member has lost something that matters to them. For those new people, it's probably important that they hear just how fleeting these things can be.

Have you seen what they are charging for Gold/Platinum club memberships? It may not have any direct costs, but having AP/DVC early access might well leave money on the table if even a small fraction of those people would otherwise pay up.
My google search turns up the following pricing from 2020:
  • Silver: $249 plus 6.6% platform service fee
  • Gold: $449 plus 6.6% platform service fee
  • Platinum: $749 plus 6.6% platform service fee

I’m bummed about this too, but I’m hoping it’s related to the AP situation. APs have always been included with the early DVC rD registration. I feel if they’d only done early DVC, the WDW APs would have screamed foul. And if they’d included DVC and the WDW APs, there would be a huge uproar since DLR doesn’t even currently have an AP program and tons of us are waiting to be able to purchase WDW APs. I’m guessing this was their best route with the likely limited number of registrations they’ll initially release.

This might be the best explanation so far, cause your right. Still sucks.
