More DVCs or More Parks?

Are there any rumors about incremental expansions for any of the current parks?
DCA is getting World of Color show, Mermaid ride, Carsland with three new rides, plus other small touches. After this DAK and DHS need a couple rides each, with something in the evening for DAK as well.

You do know there is more to Orlando/Central Florida than just WDW, right ;)

I would like to see the addition of a few rides in AK and HS as well as the addition of one or two countries in EP-WS (I would love to see Thailand and Brazil added.) But, we have begun to realize there is more to our trips to Florida than just WDW (GASP!) While I think there are some improvements that could be made to the parks, I do not see the need for a 5th theme park. There are so many other parks and activities in the area to explore. The only additional significant investment I would like them to make is a Poly DVC. That is something that I think would be a very good move for the company (and us shareholders :thumbsup2 )

Your mention of a Poly DVC makes me :lmao:. But only because I'm one of the people that has said I would sell a kidney to buy it. If Disney watches these boards at all - Poly DVC will be in the works. It would sell out before they even broke ground (if presales are allowed) just from the # of people I've seen that feel like I do about a Poly DVc:cloud9:.

That said - I feel a little expansion and upgrading of the current parks would be more amenable to me rather than an entirely new park.

We were told absolutely will there be no more ticketed parks in Florida. We took several tours last July (sans kids trip) and the expansions that Disney is working on are global. They will continue to add new attractions to the existing parks, but no new parks will be built.

Really? That surprises me. I don't follow the business of the parks, but how are they doing? I thought that EuroDisney was a disaster and Hong Kong Disney is even worse. Again probably just assuming us lemmings will continue to spend $$$ at WDW without keeping up the investment in the parks and service.

I thought EuroDisney was an initial "disaster" but lately has come into it's own..

I find it funny to hear all the AK at night issues. I think DHS has the same amount of emptiness at night. (It is especially weird walking from the Osborne lights through an abandoned park with no food sales until you get to ToT..I guess TSM now helps that some..)

The problem I have is that after the closure of the Adventurers Club I am just not that interested in WDW anymore.

Would love to see some DVC in places I'd like to go and visit (of course they have to pick the Washington DC area where I live to build one - if it is a DVC. But I can go to Hawaii. Never been there.)

 I've been around here long enough to know how much you loved that place. I never got to experience it myself but I would have loved to! You really have to wonder what (if anything) goes thru the minds of Disney upper management sometimes.

I honestly think that Disney doesn't need any new parks. It's already hard enough as it is to do things you want to do at the 4 parks over a weeklong vacation. I do agree however, that they should expand on the parks.

I also think that there's enough DVC resorts for now. There's so many and I feel like I'll never get a chance to visit all of them!

thank you.

Many of us are hoping it will return in some form (not a dinner show! please not a dinner show). but my trips to WDW are down in frequency - did an ABD, doing a cruise, another cruise next year, went to Disneyland, Disney still gets the cash or points, but not so much for WDW.

I do not believe that more DVC will crowd the parks. Once you buy into DVC you are ready to spend more time at the resort. Crowded parks are full with people staying off site who do not care to head back to the hotel and fight traffic.

I agree with this assessment. When we stay at our DVC resort, we may visit a park one day during the time that we are there. Even then, it is usually not an entire full day. When we stayed off-site, we felt obligated to go and stay all day, for as many days as possible because you never knew if you would actually have the opportunity to come back. When you stay as a DVC member, you always know that the parks will be waiting for you the next time, so you do not feel like you are missing out. The parks were actually not the reason we purchased DVC anyways. (Don't get me wrong, we enjoy them, but we don't need to go everytime.) We were impressed with the affordability and the quality that Disney represents. We purchased for a relaxing vacation at quality resorts for years to come. We feel that is exactly what we are getting.

I Agree! :goodvibes
They need to expand this park the most! popcorn::

There is another problem with a fifth gate at WDW - they are out of buildable land. They could take out a golf course or wipe out Ft. Wilderness, but short of getting rid of something, there isn't land to put another park.

Most of Disney is on a swamp, and the land that remains would be difficult and expensive to build on.

Didn't they have to truck in enormous amounts of dirt to fill in the "swamp" when they built AK? they could still do that, I assume.

If there is a 5th gate, which a very doubtful, I hope it would be "Duckburg". The main monument (like Cindy's castle, EPCOT dome, Tree of Life) could be Uncle Scrooge's money bin. They could have a Scrooge themed ride, Huey, Louis, and Dewey rides, Donald stuff, Killmotor Hill, and just generally play on the rich, rich history the ducks have.

At any rate, it would be nice to see AK and DHS with more rides and/or shows.

The land they built AK on was a better building class than what they have left. They truck in enormous truckloads of dirt to build anything. The land they have left would involve more than enormous truckloads of dirt - and they probably wouldn't pass the environmental impact analysis on it to build.
