A quick view of the DVC resales seems to have more DEC UY available (at least in the lower point ranges we're looking for). Got me thinking, out of the 8 UYs is there some kind of ranking - are some more popular than others? Are there deals to be had as a buyer for less popular UYs?

Where are u seeing the dec uys? I finally taled dh into doing another add on and we can not find a smaller contract with a dec uy.

The number of contracts with a given UY is more of a function of what Disney was selling, not what people wanted. The majority of new direct buyers aren't given a choice of UY's. BLT comes to mind as a resort that only offered (February?) for the longest time. I asked my Guide about it and he said that they have no idea why they were told to only offer February for as long as they did.

They aren't given a choice or they don't ask? We bought last month and our guide gave us the option of at least 6 different use years (I didn't even have to ask, but I was going to ask anyways).

Most of the ones I'm finding under 100 pts are sale pending. The cheapest 3 listings on The Timeshare Store (all sale pending) are DEC UY. Several of the other brokers seem to have quite a few DEC UY between 100 and 150 pts.

It's the latter! We bought in June 2009, when they were offering Feb, but I specifically asked for October.

By the time the contract hits the web site, they may already have a pending buyer from their list.

You may want to contact TTS and tell them what you are looking for. That way they can watch for the right contract and contact you when it comes in.

TTS has said that they update the website and send the email at the same time. it's just that most people get the email before they see the updated website.

but yes, for smaller contracts, you often need to be able to act quickly...

Definitely the latter. They gave us June because, in the words of my guide "Its June now, so we're only selling June UY" ... I asked if it would be a problem since we usually traveled in the fall and she said no. It hasn't been, but if I had my druthers I would have picked Aug or Oct.

We own 4 contracts - we bought two direct, and two resale. We chose to have a December Use Year for our first purchase, which was direct at AKV.
When we added on at BLT our guide just assumed that we wanted to keep December as our UY, and it was on our contract when we got it. We would definitely have asked for December otherwise.
Then when we went to add on at Saratoga, we waited, and waited to get a smaller (85 points) with our UY.

Finally, we bought points at HHI, and we had to hunt and search to find the right contract, with a Dec. UY -
That was especially difficult as we were looking for that contract when the new resale rule came out, so then we were under the gun to find the right contract, for the right price, with the right use year, at the right resort.

Plus we started dealing with an unscrupulous agent and had to quickly exit from that and start all over. I would imagine that poor seller from the first contract is still in possession of their contract, I would never buy it through that agent!

December seems to work really well for us, since there are no January UY's it's easier for us to think of it as a calendar year, receiving our points 'a year in advance' makes us think ahead as to how we are going to use our points!
