i've heard somewhere that the first week of december is the most difficult for DVC reservations, even more than the second half of december. Could this be true and why would that be? Aren't school holidays in the second half of december?

I’m my experience both are hard to book for some rooms. I don’t find one more difficult than the other.

The first 2 weeks of December used to be very slow times for park attendance, because as you say schools are still in session. Those 2 weeks also used to be some of the cheapest for resort stays, both for DVC points per night and for cash reservations. That combination of lower crowds and cheaper rooms made those weeks very, very popular, which translates to harder to book. Many people visit who aren’t tied to the school schedule!

Now that DVC has reallocated points so that those two weeks are more expensive points-wise, in a few years we’ll be able to determine whether demand has changed as well.

The first week of December is (has been, at least) the highest demand week for DVC owner bookings for many years. The Christmas to New Year’s week has been second, and the second week of December has been third. I don’t think there’s a huge difference between those weeks - but it will be interesting to see if those early December weeks become easier to book and September, January and May weeks become harder over the next few years!

i've been trying to get hold of a 2bdr standard view for a few days now, refreshing and trying to get that 8am sharp, but it seems the point re allocation has not done much for early december availability this year. And if i look at november, it seems lots of availability in november has gone too already.

I hope it happens. December is my favorite season and I don’t mind using more points if that means it’ll be easier to book.
