I was wondering how long the process takes to become a member. Once we decide to buy in, how long does it take to get the paperwork, process it and finalize it on average?

Also, I thought I remember reading something about buying timeshares from NY was different than buying in other states? Do we have to go down to FL to do the paperwork or can they send it through the mail.

Thanks again!

It does depend on where you are buying from. NY is usually slow to accept each new location. Since SSR is new, I doubt that would be on NY's list yet. If you are buying BCV, I am sure it would go through in the normal time. They send the paperwork to you (I believe this was fedex, but it's been so long ago, I really don't remember), and you sign all the mickey palm trees and send it back. I believe we did this next day also.

We are newbies....it didn't seem to take that long at all...total about a month...but..we have not actually closed yet. but we got our Membership number really quick and made our ressies for Sept too. With Disney it seemed about 1 month

About as long as it'll take the Islanders to win a Stanley Cup. Sorry, couldn't resist. Even though I'm from the south, I'm an Islanders fan from way back.

If you are buying from Disney and the points are available, it takes about 30 days but you can make reservations from when you sign up. For SS, it'll be a while as you can't close till it's essentially ready to open. That should be late Spring. For resale it's usually a little longer, maybe 30-60 days but can be longer still in some cases. Good luck.

It took us three weeks to get a guide to call us back once we expressed an interest. I have no idea how long it would have taken to have gotten paperwork.

By that time we had an agreement for a resale.

It took two months (a little longer) for the resale to close - resales will take longer and you can't make ressies until they close.

Argh! I'll be dead by then!!! LOL Thanks for the chuckle!

Our experience is that even if a resort isn't available for sale in NY immediately (or 5 months later) and you are on a waitlist with a Guide as a potential buyer they will hold the price for you and whatever incentive offers there are.

We had this happen with Wilderness Lodge, when we bought. We got it at the original price with Magical Beginnings, after the price had gone up and they had dropped MB for the resort when New York FINALLY got approved.

Otherwise you can go down to Florida and buy at WDW. :D

Have Fun!!
