More about Kohl's

There was a thread about Kohl's dept. stores a couple of weeks back. Most of us said "never pay full price" because things are always going on sale. Some said it was because they doubl ethe price of everything as their regular price; others (including me) said no, there are really excellent deals.

Well, I'm in the market for some yellow Fiesta dishes. I checked Kohls' website: $39.99, for a 5 piece place setting. Dillard's website: $20, for the same 5 piece place setting.

So those of you who said they double the prices were right. (But I will still go there for their 80% off racks!)

Now I just need DILLARDS to have a half price sale!

Interestingly enough, we just had our first Kohl's in the area open last weekend and I've heard a lot of people like it. (Of course, those are all sales price items.

I never shop in Dillard's for the same reason you mentioned.

Well actually, there are a few others as well, but that's beside the point here.

I got the best price on my Fiestaware at Foley's when they have the coupon sales. I just got the new red (actually Scarlet) at Foley's for $17.75 for a 5 piece place setting.
Now if you are up for a short road trip the very best prices are in Canton at a place called the "Dish Barn". Gotta dig some but I could not believe the prices.

yes, I never buy anything at Kohl's unless it is marked at least 1/2 off.

I buy most of my clothes there end of season. They usually have a clearance rack marked 70 or 80% off, and then during sales they take another 10 to 20% off of that. Most of my new winter sweaters for this year were bought there last spring for around $5 to $7 each. I was in there this past Saturday for their huge sale and I bought a ton of spring and summer stuff for the kids.

Oh no! We went to Canton in June and went so early and stayed so late that the Dish Barn hadn't opened when we got there (we parked right by it) and was already closed when we left!

I've worked at Kohls for 13years. They do have great prices on alot of their merchandise. With the economy in a slump,we offer more incentives to shop our store. They have the lowest prices of the season starting on Thursday. You will also recieve 10.00 coupons for every 50.00 you charge on your Kohls. So this is a good week to shop. Even though I work there we have way to many sales going on day to day that we can't even keep up. I tell people if its not on sale now check in a couple days and I'm sure it will. The best days to shop for sales are on Wednesday,Thursday,Friday and Saturday. Wednesday is also Senior Day. All seniors get an extra 10% off all merchandise clearence and sale. Lately they have been giving 15%. I'm sure from now till Christmas it will be 15%. They don't mark merchandise up between sales. The price stays at what its mark at. The sales are what goes up and down. Honestly,its a good store to shop and get good quality merchandise. They have the best return policy!

I have to admit, I used to be a HUGE Kohl's fan... then honestly I started shopping around and the quality vs price isn't that great there most of the time... even with sales. And if it isn't on sale, there is no way I would dream of buying something there. Definitely way too over priced for the quality.
I do get some things there now and then, but I really truly do not expect the clothes to fit as well nor last as long as even something I get from Penney's. It's an okay store, but since ours has been going "downhill" over the last few years, I have spent less and less of my time and money there.

I'm sorry, but I had to LOL! It seems to me they always have their "lowest prices of the season" like once a month! LOL! Don't get me wrong, I love Kohl's but we always hear this ad!


I do love Kohl's but I agree, I will NOT buy ANYTHING unless it's on sale, ever.

I always buy my shoes there(New Balance) and I don't recall them being on sale..or seeing them 1/2 off anywhere else.. ..I usually pay $40 or less....

I aused to work at Kohl's. There is not way they mark stuff up when they put it on sale. Do you know how long that would take?

I also agree with never buying anything unless it is on sale. When they get the next seasons clothes in they are usually not on sale right away. I either wait or buy them and then go back with a receipt within 14 days and they will give you the sale price of that day.

Frankly, the Sonoma children's clothes are terrible. They shirnk really bad and fit funny on DD. I do like the shoes, home goods, accessories and Men's departemtns. I rarely buy clothes there. I don't fit in Juniors and the ladies clothes are not my style either.

I agree about never buying anything unless it's on sale. But, I've always had good luck with Kohl's, even with the Sonoma brand. The only thing I won't buy in Sonoma are the bodysuit type shirts for babies because I have had a problem with those shrinking. But, I've never had a problem with anything else there. Plus, in the kid's department they carry Carter's and Osh Kosh, same as Penny's, but cheaper.

I worked at Goody's for 9 yrs, so initially I was against Kohls. But..I DO like their clearance, and home goods. To me, even their sales are higher priced..but they do have some good styles I can't find elsewhere. Let me tell you tho, why I RARELY go there.. Their customer service is awful. You can walk around there for an hour and not one associate will greet you. It's like you have to beg them to take your money. Maybe that's just here in Ga, but I am NOT impressed with their people skills, so why would I want to spend MORe money at a place that is rude, when I can find a better deal with friendlier employees?

I hate to say but because of cuts they have given way to many jobs to one person. We usually have one person to cover one side of the store. They have to get stock out, put returns away, help customers,take phone calls, and help ring at the register. It really becomes impossible. To keep prices low they have to cut help. Stores have become self service. I don't agree with this but not a whole lot that we can do. So if you find people not real happy you may have to realize why. On top of that give them all that work and then pay them 6-7 dollars an hour.

I just went to the one Alan went to, and they did have a nice selection of decorative items, i.e. Christmas, Halloween, dishes, etc. However, when you don't carry larger sizes for women, you 'lose my business' so to speak. Oh well, luckily there are other stores here....

Just a possibility - but if you have a Tuesday Morning store in your area - they had stoneware that resembles what you are looking for - and showed yellow as a color choice - for $20 for 4 place settings of 4 pieces. I'm planning to run in and see if I can get some red or purple to go in our kitchen!

I was one of the ones who said they inflate the cost of their items... DH and I went in there on Friday night, because he'd never been, and he found the same to be true =)

It's not that they mark everything up each week, their regular prices are just much higher than other stores, usually. Now, if you can snag an 80% off rack, then you're likely to get a pretty good deal, but I wouldn't consider it a good price until it's at LEAST 50% off *their* sticker price. People think they are getting a good deal because they have their weekly 'lowest prices of the season!' sale - which IS a weekly sale. =)

People just need to be aware of that, and check out prices at other places before buying into their 'sales'

Now that you mention it, I truly believe that is what Goody's does around here. I've just started buying there during the past year, but you do have to wait for a truly good sale. Even though they're always having a 'sale', most of them seem to be on already marked up merchandise. I've definitely learned to look out for the great sales!

Tnkr...I feel ya! I'm still in retail, so I understand. Just sad when a company is all 'be friendly' then cuts costs! I think the customers shopping experience should be #1. Of course, my new company is all about hiring TOP TALENT, and they pay less than any other job that I've hired people for.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...interesting reading here. Now I'm not as excited as I was when I saw a sign today by a flattened out lot that a Kohl's will be showing up! I like the deals I get at JC Penney. Recently it was buy one, get one for $1. GREAT since I needed two blankets and four pillows!! And for every $50 spent, I received a $10 coupon. I have to say Penney's is my favorite...except I never find jeans there that I like.

I used to work at Kohl's too.

The Lowest Price of the Season is only 4 times a year, since there are only 4 seasons.

They have Grand Opening Sales at least 10 times a year, because of new stores opening.

I found out that only 30% of the people that get the $10 card use them. It is dumb not to use them, you can go in and get underwear or socks. Most people think they have to spend a certain amount like over $50 before they can use it.

I wish the buyer for women would find other decent clothes. I am sorry, but I am 43 and I don't want to walk around with cardinal birds or snowflakes on my sweatshirts.
