I had never seen this posted- but why is there a headstone/memorial at the pond at Vero Beach Resort? I almost asked the front desk but forgot. I just thought it is a strange place for Disney to allow a memorial.

Interesting. I'm curious too.

Even the guest who tried skipping out without paying his bill got that little extra "Disney Service".

I'm glad to see you settled your account!

;)

I don't have a clue and have never noticed it. We were over there just last week while waiting for our room too. CarolAnnC is going down there next week and has volunteered to do some investigating.

A little off-topic - I keep checking back to see if someone has an answer for this topic and noticed DisDaydreamer's signature.

I see you quit smoking on May 4, 2008. Please use this an incentive to stay "quit". May 4, 2008 was the two-year anniversary of my uncle's passing from lung cancer, which spread to his brain. We can't even begin to tell you the hole in our family caused my his death at the age of 60. That same year, his brother (my other uncle) was diagnosed with lung cancer and has had half his lung removed and has tons of damage to his heart from the chemo and radiation. Earlier that year, his older sister (my aunt) died from complications caused by emphysema. My mother is the only one out of the four siblings that is healthy. She was the only one who quit smoking early in her 30s.

I don't mean to go on and on - but the date you quit is so significant to me it just caught my attention. And, I hope that my story of so much loss because of cigarettes is enough to inspire you to keep staying smoke free, one day at a time. Good luck to you!! Think of all the money you're saving for Disney trips!!

May 4, 2008, would have been my dad's 74 birthday but he died four years earlier from multiple lung problem due to years of smoking. Keep it up Rob, you'll be glad you did! So will your loved ones.

Mt dad's bday was May 4th too and he died at 45 of a heart attack and I am sure his smoking had something to do with it.

My father passed away last August at 67 from a lung tumor (they thought they got it all) Have been trying to get my Mother to quit.:confused3

The resort was very quiet this morning upon arriving. Upon leaving after a quick bite at Shutters, there were people coming out of the woodwork making a dash for the pool.;)
In all the visits have never walked to the backside of the lake. The biting bugs were out early this morning. Took a few for the team.;)
The memorial marker and tree is for a late CM placed their by a few VB CM's.
The Resort Mgr said it was planted around 4 years ago.

Thanks for the info! I was afraid it may be for a sad reason... So nice to have the VB CM's care enough to do this for a late coworker.

Thanks, Mike. You said you were going to try to get by there this morning... I have never seen this memorial. Last time there the bugs were so bad we did almost a U-turn to and took a left on the short trail back. Thanks for taking the time to discover this.

Would like to know a bit more about him or her...

You're welcome. Never walk into the jungle on a calm morning without your bugjuice. It wasn't that bad just got a few.

Thanks for going on that intel mission for us.

Such a nice gesture. That CM must have loved VB and his or her fellow CM's. Makes me want to hug someone.
