We wanted to attend the Moonlight Magic event for HS on the 26th.

If I book a room for th 25th and check out on the 26th, am I still eligible to go?

Or does my reservation have to be the 26th to 27th?

All members, who have purchased direct (or are grandfathered) can go. Having a reservation or not determines when you can try to book. From the DVC Member website:

"Register online when your registration window opens. Event registration is required in order to attend this event.

Members with Disney Resort hotel reservations during the event can register online beginning Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 9:00 AM Eastern Time. Event registration opens to all Members on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 9:00 AM Eastern Time."

IMO, since you do not have a reservation during the event, you can only register on 13 Sep.

I would still suggest trying to register on August 30th, if you can, great, if not, wait until September 13.

I personally am hoping they continue doing these events next year and that one lands during our trip.

One word of caution, I wouldn’t plan a trip based around this event. The EPCOT MM went very, very fast and people that did plan on attending were pretty bummed out when they couldn’t get in. Even people staying onsite logging in at exactly 9am had no guarantee of getting a ticket to this event. Many were unable to secure a reservation. Once booking reopened a few days later for those not onsite I only read one account of someone getting in.

When you say “staying onsite,” do you mean paying with a points reservation? Or do you mean paying cash somewhere onsite?

Since there isn’t full availability, I’d love to just book a cash room and stay there...

Maybe that is why they put these events on, to get DVC owners to book during during certain times of year. People still vacation during that time even if the event is full, they keep the occupancy up and spend money at Disney.

Staying anywhere onsite. Cash or points.

I wouldn't book a trip around one, but if there is one while there, I won't complain if I can get it.

Oh wow! I thought it had to be a DVC resort booked with DVC points in order to reserve tickets on 8/30. But if I can just pay cash and book at a moderate, my life just became infinitely easier!
Thank you!

I am actually going that week anyway, so adding on a day isn’t a problem.
However, I was under the impression that I had to book a DVC room using DVC points in order to get the first stab at tickets (bad intel from member services).
There has been no availability for my extra night, but if I can just pay cash at a moderate hotel, I’ll def stay the other night.

I really am not sure, but reading through the rules, it looks like you can book with cash, but only the number of people staying in the same room with you can be registered when paying cash. What is not clear in the rules is: If you have to book through member services (which you should be able to do with cash) and if it has to be a DVC resort or not.
