Moonlight Magic at Epcot Dec 2017

While the system sucks, instead of dealing with these issues and costs, their alternative is that they stop offering these free events.

Thanks! I sent an email-- I was able to procure tickets after a 30 minute wait, but I am a bit perturbed by the process.
How did you get tickets? I have tried relentlessly online, called member services, emailed many people, got a return call from them and still no tickets available! THis is horse poop

That was the first day— I was online at 9:05, refreshing by 9:15, tickets by 9:45am. We are there for the dec 11th date.

I sent an email letting member services know that I’m disappointed with their ticket sign up process AND the fact that ppl did not need to submit a reservation number before nov 7.

I’m so sorry. You should also likewise send them some feedback.

I did sent them feedback and got a return call from DVC yesterday. They only expressed thanks for my feedback, but did not offer any reason why this sold out so fast and told me to "keep trying" and something might open up. Not very helpful. A reason why tickets sold out so fast or some effort to get me a ticket when one opened up would have been nice. The entire exchange was disappointing.

What did they say when they followed up with you? :rolleyes1

Not much but I figure at least I let them know that I am not happy with the process... maybe it will matter??

I wouldn't hold my breath, especially since you were able to secure reservations. I'll be interested to find out if they follow up. Good luck.

I followed up with DVC via email too and mentioned how with the Merry Mixers no Members (on property) felt left out. No Member in WDW was turned away from the Mixer. But with Midnight Madness there is definitely a feeling of being "shut-out".

She told me, "Members get upset all the time....like how at the Merry Mixers there are some Members who complain to us about not getting the DVC ornament" based on the fact they cannot vacation in WDW during that time and they ask "why can't you mail the ornament to my home since I can't attend the Mixer?". I told the DVC staff person that I don't see the comparison to me getting on the computer on opening day of reservations for the Midnight Madness on a day I am going to be staying on property in a DVC resort anywhere in near comparison to the example they just explained to me. And she told me that DEC 11 SOLD OUT IN 1 HOUR??!!!!

Then she went on to say to me, "I don't know if you realize there are over 500,000 Members all trying to book things at the same time". Again.....I say to her.....but there are not 500,000 Members who tried to secure a reservation for Dec 11 at the Epcot Midnight Madness (or was there!!!LOL)??? She then told me, "never give up hope and keep trying".
I said "yea, thanks.....gotta go now" and hung up. It was a pretty lame conversation.

So, someone followed up the email with a call to you?

if you can, keep trying because people are saying they have gotten in.

I think that conversation was very unsatisfactory.

Yes bobbiwoz---agreed.

I was at work when a Kissimmee phone number showed up on my cell on Tues. The conversation lasted about 5 min and felt very much like I was being placated? It's hard to keep trying to be honest. Even the registration process is a pain----you have to put in all your information before it tells you there are none left. So I have to keep putting in name, DVC numberI work full-time and we're still dealing with some relocation issues. I try now and again....every couple days. I just don't have the time honestly. Spent 4-5 hrs trying to find my daughter a used car on my day off. I understand that everyone is busy....but we are coming off a crazy difficult year and I just feel it shouldn't be this hard to do a DVC event. I am getting to the point that it just doesn't matter. This is on the tail of Disney and DVC telling me I am not eligible for all 9 days of Fast Passes for my Nov/Dec vacation----they cut me off at 7 days and left 2 of the days of my vacation unable to be spent with friends we are traveling with (that is a whole other story I won't bore you with). Respectfully, all this nonsense is just getting to me. I've tried at least 10x since since Oct 24 (twice today). Sorry if I sound whiny.....don't mean to be, but planning WDW vacations is a lot of work compared to how it was 10 yrs ago! LOL

This is the email response... guess they want me to log in and resubmit my feedback. What a PIA!

I called and they said yes it is sold out for Dec. 4
They said they will begin double checking reservations and anyone without a Dec. 4 room will be canceled so I might be able to book sometime this week and before open booking begins

I did not book for Dec. 11th because we will not be there but wanted to see and informed member services that this might be a problem.
I sure hope they do look at the reservations to confirm that everyone that booked is staying on property that night

I booked and i have an offsite reservation and my tickets weren’t canceled.

They still could be - none of us know if MS has finished reviewing the reservations or if they will continue to check as more reservations come in.

That said, I don't recall any reports of someone's reservation getting cancelled, but maybe that isn't something anyone would want to announce or complain about here.

Who started the rumor that MS was going to comb through each confirmation to cancel evildoers? Especially now that registration is open to all DVC members?

Even though I have tickets for the Dec 11 event, I don't think DVC did a very good job in handling the ticket process for the event. It's too bad; I will enjoy the event but not as much knowing that 1) they didn't make sure the member is staying on site or in a DVC room, and 2) the technical issues from that morning (I logged on at 9:03am, got kicked out a few times before opening many windows, of which one finally allowed me to register).

I feel for those who are on site or in a DVC room, and do not have tickets.

Me too. Apparently some spots have opened for non on site folks.

Just got off the phone with Member Services. The guy said that they are going to personally go through the reservations to make sure the registrant actually has an onsite reservation (dunno if he was BSing me), and they will be kicking people off who don't have an onsite reservation, despite the fact that the event is now "open" for everyone. He also said that when they do have openings, they will start reaching out to members with on site reservations to see if they want the open tickets (I don't know why they didn't have a waitlist to begin with or how they'll even begin to do this!).

This guy recommended that those who do NOT have tickets call them 2-3 days beforehand to see whether they should show up to the event, and that there's a high likelihood that you can still get in without tickets because people may not show up, or people may leave the event early. He also reported that Typhoon Lagoon had 5,000 people registered, and 1-2,000 people showed up without tickets, and they still let the non ticketed people in. He also recommended that people without tickets show up at the kiosks to wait and see if there are parties with unfilled tickets (for example, a party of 8 registered, but only 4 show up because the other 4 aren't making the trip) so that they can give those unfilled tickets out on the spot.

Don't know if this will help, or if it's even true (or if the guy was just blowing smoke up my you know what). Hopefully this helps.... I'm now submitting my feedback on my member page on how disappointed I am by the entire registration process.

I'm skeptical of all of that. Way too many moving parts.

OK, So I'm probably one of those people many of you may not agree with. We are DVC members but also own a vacation home nearby. I am planning to go December 4th. When I could not get a DVC reservation, I made a reservation at an All star so I would have a reservation for early registration. All the other MM events were on dates that we could not get there. I logged on 10/24 (or whatever the day was) and made a registration for 4 people - even though I think there will only be two of us. I wanted the opportunity to invite people to join us. A week or so later, I went on site and made a reservation for a campground. I figured I might prefer to do a throw away reservation at a campground, then spend $130 to stay at all stars. I also called member services and inquired about what might happen if you had a reservation at Vero Beach - would that count? I figured a throw away reservation of 8 points, might be better than the $68 throw away for the campground. During our phone conversation, she indicated that "they will probably do a sweep of the reservations a couple days before the event" to ensure that people who made early registrations actually have on site reservations. This came up because I asked her, if I cancelled my All star reservation, but have one at the Campground or Vero, would I still have my MM registration. I did not inquire further at that time. Fast forward to November 7th. I was able to get a reservation for 2. So now I have a confirmation for 4 IF I have an onsite reservation, and a confirmation number for 2 without an on site reservation. I have cancelled my All star reservation and my campground reservation (and I never did a vero reservation) but am waitlisted at DVC for BWV or BCV - because we would stay there on that night if it became available. I DO PLAN TO CANCEL WHAT I WILL NOT USE, but I may not do that until closer to the date - possibly inside of 7 days.

I agree, I really think they should have a waitlist. How hard can that be? I can remember once registering for some event (not Moonlight Madness) and cancelling at the last minute (maybe a day before) because we ended up having friends with us and could not bring them along but wanted to spend the time with them.

So for those still trying to register, keep trying. Even though it says sold out, keep trying to click on the link to register. You never know when you might get put through. And definitely try on the days right before the event.
