wow i never would have lent that much stuff. some people are such moochers. i had two mooching roomates and lost it on them. i just had to replace my shampoo, it took me almost 7 months to go thru an entire bottle of shampoo. when i was with them i went thru 3-4 in 4 months. they had the nerve to tell me it was my fault for not telling them what i bought. i labeled everything with a sharpie and they still would touch my stuff. my current roomate is a dream, goes on vacation and the last day she went to walmart and stocked up on TP, papertowels, and garbage bags. hopefully with your saintly karma your next neighbors will like take out your trash and drop off cookies every day.

ps i grew up in a townhouse. after a few years most were rentals and we had wacky nieghbors including the wife beater who too chased his wife out into the yard, except we all shared a yard

Don't broadcast your signal either. If people can't see it, they can't use it. It's one of the settings on your wireless router.

DD's friend came over one day when the girls were about 10 and said "Mom cancelled our internet because we can get yours so why pay for it?!"

Last time we went to Disney I paid a friend to watch the cats and water the plants. She said at least 3 times she came over to find my hose stretched into my neighbours yard, and she was watering her flowers!

She's also has ZERO boundaries in a million other ways, and some major dramatic conflict brewing with practically everyone.
It's crazy making.

OP.. I can't believe it took you this long to completely lose it. Like others have said.. if you had a zillion dollars and sat around all day... you still don't OWE her anything.

ETA) Our internet is password protected now. Learned my lesson.

I was out scooping snow the other day before work and my neighbor asked if she could borrow $20. I barely know her to say hi.

I still haven't seen the coupon book that I ordered from her kids for their school fundraiser in September.

Many years ago - maybe 10 or so..one of neighbors asked if one of their daughters could do something computer related at our house. The parents wanted her to print something on our computer, because they didn't have a printer. The daughter gets to our house, and needed to use the computer to "do" what needed to be done. Come to find out the parents didn't have a computer either.

The parents...both teachers...getting great insurance...getting fully funded pensions...have Harleys...have a house up north...go to Hawaii during summer vacations...REFUSED to get computers, since they felt the school district should buy computers for them, because they are teachers after all.

They asked one other time if their daughter could use the computer, and we politely declined. (No - I don't care that we left them in a bind.)

To the OP- I love the idea of giving the neighbor a price list. Make sure that you include your time, gas etc for the items. Personally - I think some of the pricing was too low. And - never give out a spice bottle...just a teaspoon or so - in a baggie.

Maybe I don't cook/bake much, but I can only recall 1 time in 18 years that I needed to borrow a "food" item from a neighbor - and it was a few days after DD got her tonsils out. DD got a craving for toast, and I just didn't have any bread around. If I borrow something else (chairs, tables etc,) those always promptly get returned after the event. Really - it is just common sense.

Years ago one of my friends lived in an apartment and had a neighbor like that. She finally started saying "Yes I do have that item but if I loan it to you than I won't have it when I need it" her neighbor quit asking and moved on to others.

I'm retired from an auto factory. Years ago a co-workers girlfriend had a headache, he knew that I always kept aspirin, tylenol, etc on me at work. He asked if she could have some tylenol, no problem I gave it to her. For the next 3 days straight it was a rerun. On day 5 I told them I was out and to go to medical. They never asked again and I didn't care if they believed me or not. I don't mind helping someone out but if you know this is a daily thing stop at the store and buy your own. They both worked overtime everyday so i'm pretty sure one of them could afford a bottle of Tylenol. I would just work my 8 hrs so I could be home as much as possible with my family.

I can't believe someone would beg a $20 off of a neighbor you barely knew! Even the homeless in San Francisco won't do that!

I did have a roommate who wanted to charge me to print one 10 page research paper in college (20 cents per page). I was funding my own way through college, my parents couldn't afford to buy me a computer, and I sure couldn't afford one. Her parents paid for her college, gave her a monthly "fun money" account, and paid all her other expenses. My other roommate gasped at her and said "You can print all you want on my computer, I'll even let you type"

I have a neighbor I'm very close with. We occasionally trade items. I borrowed spaghetti one night and brought a new one back to her the next night. On Christmas Day we realized my dad used up all the eggs for breakfast and my husband needed one for bread that night. I borrowed one from my neighbor and a few hours later she called asking for a particular soup she needed. Sadly, I didn't have it. But we laughed at how we both ran out on the same day.

I'm can confidently say I know she dosen't mind, and appreciates borrowing a glug of milk for her tea when she opens the fridge to see the kids finished it! (which is the most common thing she borrows)

Glad I have that, I agree the OP's story is WAY over the top for whats OK, but I certianly don't think all borrowing is bad.

Same here. I have two neighbors whose kids are friends with my kids, and we each borrow from each other, maybe once a month, a small item, when needed. Usually milk, eggs, coffee, bread....I think we all borrow and lend fairly and we are lucky to have each other!

But, OP's situation and the other neighbor with the tools and the furniture --- way out of hand!! Crazy what people will do

Just a thought about the uniforms on the kids - many public schools now have uniforms, so uniforms does not necessarily equal $$$private school tuition (kind of like no kids does not equal rolling in $$$)

Still, that woman was rude (and very odd, too).

Also, a lot of charter schools (which are free) also require uniforms.

The neighbor is rude and pretty wacko, though. I can't imagine asking someone to go buy something so you can borrow it. Go print at the library!

I have to say, we have great neighbors. We all have at least 2 acres though, so distance and lots of trees have made us all good neighbors!

My only beef is that the neighbors next door (who have over 7 acres) run a business out of their home. They built a large out building on their property where they now work out of and house their goods. It is right at the fence line of our property, which I don't really mind, except that now our dogs can see them going in and out all day long and bark and bark at them when they are out. I don't really feel obligated to go running out there and stop them in the middle of the day because they had plenty of property to build on and chose THAT spot. They say they aren't bothered by it and my dogs aren't out all day. Hopefully it isn't a bit issue.

However, now that they have that building there, I can easily access their internet. I don't because we have out own. But I couldn't even see their internet as an option until they built that outbuilding.
