Mooaoaann - Airfare for my dates has skyrocketed

Uhhgg. We are going end of July. One week at WDW and one week at the beach. I have delayed buying airfare because I had not worked out if we would have a sat to sat rental at the beach or sun. to sun. I have been checking it every day and it went as low as $49 on AIrtran. Today for both legs of the trip it has cone up to $119.

I knwo all my own fault. I was gambling and lost.

Does anyone have any idea if Southwest usually drops closer to the dates. I have not been impressed by the DINGS lately and I'm haven't seen any from baltimore to orlando.

I'm getting scared.

As for the trend, no airfares go UP as you get closer not down SW is not that different!

Plot your trip over at www.farecast.com to get a sense for timing. SW is not included (nor is NWA), but most others are.

Are you on the Airtran email list? If not, log on and sign up.

They are having at least one sale a week... but you have to hit a sale.

Historically, they announced sales on Wednesdays, but lately it has been Tuesday, Monday or even last week (I think) Sunday. Generally speaking, their sales last 2 to 3 days.

Check daily. Last week my flights were $98 on airtran. Yesterday they went up to $118!!! I was bummed!! and then today they are $89. They fluctuate daily. I snagged them this morning at $89 each way for 2 people just in case gas prices go up, which they will. It was better than even jetblue which surprised me. Just check everyday.

Alright, now I have some hope. Thanks. I am on the Airtran email list, but I guess I wasn't paying attention to when the sale price would expire. I have been checking daily, and since they stayed low for so long, I got a little too complacent that they would stay that way. I will be ready to pounce if they come back down. If they don't come down, I'll have to drive as I need to buy 6 tickets. This airfare game kills me.

Best and cheapest days to fly usually are tues and wed, so sat to sat or sun to sun is generally premium, though sat is better than sunday....

I feel your frustration! I too was watching the $49 o/w fares (Southwest) all week, but I could not decide, either. Now I notice that Southwest has a "every other passenger flies free to Orlando" when purchased with a Southwest vacation package. This also includes the free-dining. Now, I will think about this deal and maybe miss out...
