Hi everyone!

My friends from high school and I are heading up to Montreal for a weekend in July to generally have a good time and relax from work. I've never been north of Maine, so I have no idea about this whole trip.

How cold will it be? Where is the best places to stay close to the nightlife? Will we have to do a lot of walking/pay for a lot of cabs?

Thanks for any help!

since its inland, the temperature will be fairly close (within 5 degrees) to what your use too.

Montreal has an abundance of clubs. From crappy strip clubs to upper end dance clubs. I'm not that familiar with the city now, so I can't give you locations.

It has a pretty good public transportation system (including subway), so getting around should be a snap. Its costly to stay in the city, so beware of that. Its also being touted as North America's answer to Bangkok, so the sex trade is pretty abundant to.

Be careful where you stay, as there are some pretty rough areas.

I have been told by many that Montreal has some of the BEST nightlife on this continent... and there are a lot of clubs!!!!

I would highly suggest going to 737... It is situated on top of the Place Ville-Marie, so if the doors are opened (they pretty much are opened all summer, and thet set up a dance floor outside if it's nice) you are dancing on top of the city!!! It's got ok ambiance and music, but the setting is AMAZING!!!!!

If you stay Downtown you can pretty much walk everywhere...but just be warned that the subway system is A LOT more confusing than in NYC... and it often stops before the clubs close, but it is pretty reliable...

As for the temperature, it gets really HOT!!!!! Not WDW hot, but the temperature is still up there in July... I'd say about mid-80's...

Have a blast!!!!

For the record, half of Maine is north of Montreal, so depending on where you've travelled, Maine may still be as far north as you've been.

No, just southern maine...Bar Harbor etc. I'm hoping to take the CAT over to Nova Scotia when I'm up there this summer though.

Some of the best and busiest clubs will be found on Crescent Street between Maisoneuve Street and Saint Catherine Street. There are many hotels in this area but they can be quite pricey. Like The Ritz Carleton or Hotel de la Montagne. I can get you some other ideas if your interested. The weather will be nice and if you catch one of our hot spells humid too!. It's very easy to walk around downtown, extremely safe, no so called bad areas. Another late night hotspot is Boul. St Laurent around Prince Arthur Street which is closed to car traffic, lots of nice restaurants. Don't miss "old Montreal" which is very nice to walk around and see the street vendors doing portraits and selling paintings and jewlery right off the street many bars and outdoor places to sit and eat and watch street performances jugglers mimes corney stuff like that.

We just booked @ the Delta Montreal last night - has anyone stayed there before? Just want to make sure it's convienant to everything and nightlife so we don't have to take cabs everywhere. Hotels.com said it was 2 blocks from St. Catherine Street, but it's hard to tell online when you don't know the area.

You'll be about a 10-15 minutes walk to downtown and about the same to Old Montreal. It's a very safe area and it's a nice hotel (never seen the rooms though). Don't hesitate to take the subway to go to Olympic stadium for example.

Don't miss the fireworks festival if you can. You can go to LA Ronde (Six Flags) and see them up close.

Have a good time ! :thumbsup2

Montreal, PQ and Bar Harbour, ME are at the exact same latitude. Please leave your downhill skis at home. ;)

  • Old Port area is wonderful for shopping in boutiques.
  • Rue Ste. Catherine is an "educational" walk during the day, but a place to avoid after dark.
  • Basilica de Notre Dame is beautiful -- site of Celine Dion's wedding.
  • Biodome is a wonderful indoor nature preserve

Enjoy your visit to Montreal! It's a world class city.

Just wanted to further reassure you about your choice of Hotel; my friend worked there and it was nice and clean, and close to everything...

Have a great time!!
