My DD and her friends want to take a trip to Montreal in Jan. Brrrrrrr. Can you tell me where is a great location for them to stay. They are college students and don't have much money so not expensive please. I thought I heard of a street where the shopping and clubs are underground. Can you tell me a little about this. They thought a suite hotel would be better so they can share the cost. Thanks

It's been years since I've been to Montreal, but....

Hotels in the city center range from Embassy Suites to Four Seasons back to Holiday Inns. The Metro makes it easy to get around (especially in winter) and the stations are where the 'underground shopping' is located.

St Catherine Street is the 'main drag'. Crescent Street and its neighborhood is 'restaurant row'.

It's a 5+ hour drive from me, so add at least 3-4 from LI. (I was just in Valley Stream yesterday for a wedding.)

Thanks, I know it's far but it's the closest place I think they can go and get a drink at 19. LOL They never said this but why else would you go to montreal in the winter. So any hotel near the metro or walkable to St Catherine would be good? I'll let them know. Any other advice? Thanks

January usually is quite cold. It is BEAUTIFUL though, and there is tons of things to do.

The underground shopping mall (largest one in the world) is accessible through many different areas on St. Catherine St. Any hotel right around would be quiet $. Just off St. Cath is the Day's Inn on Guy street, and that is a 5 minute walk to the area. Clubs are not underground, but LOTS of shoppign is. Club hopping is almost next door. Always done, and real easy to do.

Drinking age is 18, so they can drink in any bar. Cheers and the most popular areas are 2 streets west of Guy. The area is safe, and extremely friendly.

The casino is a place (off the island slightly) to visit.

I would suggest Beaver Lake as well. They have skating, sliding, and one of the most beautiful lookout point in the city. From the top you can see the entire city, and it stunning!! http://www.visiting-montreal.com/montreal-attraction-mount-royal.html

If you would like any type of touristic papers or such, PM me. I would be happy to mail you off a bunch. :goodvibes

Hi there. I love Montreal! We stayed at a place called Hotel Nelligan. I believe the website is www.hotelnelligan.com. It is on St. Paul Street in Old Montreal. It is very quaint and high quality. It is great for touring Old Montreal by foot. They have a great restaraunt and bar including a roof-top bar. We loved it!
