I read somewhere that there is an original step from Jefferson's Monticello in Liberty Square somewhere. Does anyone know where it is?? The last couple of times I was there I looked for it but no luck. I asked cm's and I even stumped one of the guides (people in the blue and plaid outfits?).
Thanks for any help. We are going in January and probably won't be back again in a couple years after that.

Found this on a trivia site:

In Liberty Square, near the Hall of Presidents, is a gate around a door. The gate guards a marble slab that reportedly came from Monticello

Also found that according to AllEars.Net it is a myth. Scroll a few inches down the page I've linked to, it is in a reply that starts "Hi Sandi!"

Thanks

If anyone would know, it would be Dave Smith.
I guess I can stop looking for it now.

SimonV and I asked 'Disney' about this as we were updating the Brit's Guide and we were told it was actually a myth. Someone got it into their head the step was from Monticello and people were actually chipping pieces off of it, thinking it was a historical relic. That's why the gate was put up (the edges are now quite rough).

However, the truth according to Disney is, there is no way they could have such a precious piece of history in the park (unless it were fully encased somehow) knowing how guests tend to react to such a thing. The chips in the marble doorstep prove their concerns were well founded.

Cleo is correct, our guide (Heather) on the Magic Keys Tour explained to us that it's only a myth.

Same here! Cory, my guide on the KTTK tour showed us the step and told us it was just a myth, but because people were determined to steal a piece of it, WDW had to build the little fence around it.

One thing he did tell us that might interest the OP is about the Hall of Presidents (still in Liberty Square, so kinda related). Jimmy Carter was originally in a brown suit (because he wore brown coats alot during his Presidency). However, after viewing the exhibit Rosalyn Carter thought he looked too dowdy, so when she got home she sent WDW one of his real suits to put on him. When Hilary Clinton read the story she decided to check out what WDW had dressed Bill Clinton in, decided she didn't like it, so brought one of his suits down, and supposedly dressed the Clinton animatronic herself. Thought that was an interesting tidbit.

I never even noticed a step with a gate around it! But, I do know where the engagement ring is outside of HM thanks to my 12yo DD! :teeth:
