Hi! I am looking for some monthly box subscriptions to get my dds for christmas. I have a 6th graders and an 8th grader. Just wondering which are good ones for that age group. Maybe one for me too. Thanks!

I'm looking at Ipsy for DD14. I probably won't get it, but might suggest it for a relative to get for her. It seems to be more makeup focused than other boxes, which is what DD likes.

I've also read a lot about BirchBox as well. They seem to have a wider focus as far as products go - more haircare, skincare, etc.

Ok so I have narrowed it down to poshpak, boodle box and pop sugar.

I already subscribed to the ipsy one for my odd who is 13 and I am wait listed for that. Anyone know how long that wait is?

So, I thought I would do boodle box ($120 for 6 months) for my younger dd (11 6th grade) and poshpak ($169 for 6 months) for my older dd (13 almost 14 and in 8th grade) or do poshpak for ydd and pop sugar ($109 for 3 months) for odd.
Popsugar maybe too old?

Thoughts? They would be Christmas gifts.

LOOT CRATE! My 12 year old DS loves it. It's gaming/tv related. He got it for Christmas last year, and loves it every month when it comes in the mail!

oops...I read your post as having sons, not daughters! Sorry....this one is great for boys!

my dd and son are big gamers (and anime fans)-what kind of stuff comes each month (the website shows mostly toys and candy-do they send any kind of digital stuff)?

Wow! I didn't even know all of these subscription boxes existed! I am getting one for DD15 for Xmas. Either the Candy Box or Universal Yums (she belongs to a culture club at school). Universal Yums looks new though......should I be nervous?

Popsugar may skew a little too old. Also, they have been having serious problems with shipping and billing this month, so maybe waiting a bit until they work those issues out would be better. I love Popsugar, but it's 4 times as much as Ipsy and Birchbox (and I think worth it) but has home decor/candles/kitchen items/clothing in it as well.

Ipsy does mostly makeup items and you get a cute makeup bag each month. Birchbox sends mostly skin care/hair care items with high end perfumes. Julep sends nail polishes. All 3 of those are $10 a month, Popsugar is $40 a month.

Fortune Cookie Soap has a quarterly box for $20. They put their own line of bath/body stuff in it like a soap shaped like a fortune cookie, scented lotions, hand sanitizers, bath fizzes, etc. Everything is themed really fun and the scents are mostly young. They have even had Harry Potter and Nightmare Before Christmas-themed stuff in the past. The boxes come with $10 vouchers to spend online for full size products on their site.

Ooooh, yes! Fortune Cookie Soap has such great stuff!

I gave my son Loot Crate for his birthday (he's 28). This month he got a T shirt and a couple figurines and I'm not sure what else. Past months he's gotten stuffies, game codes and cards, some wings to attach to his tennis shoes. It's all sorts of different things, every month has a theme. If you go to their website, they show you the past crates so you can get an idea of what they send. It's definitely for the gamer/anime/geek crowd.

Thanks for mentioning Fortune Cookie Soap! I will have to order some of the Polyjuice line for DD11's stocking! :wizard:

I'm thinking dd (20) might enjoy this-and if there's stuff in it during a given month that she's not interested in she can set it aside for when she needs gifts for her friends with similar tastes.

I've subscribed to a lot of different boxes. One I really like currently is Julep. If you have a teenager that is into nail polish and make up I think that is a good one. You get two nail polishes and one other make up item each month, I think for 3 months it comes out to $20 a month. You can customize each box to some extent.

If someone in your family is into food, I really like Love With Food ($12/month). I also get NatureBox, which is also snacks ($20/month), which would probably be one more for the family to share. For ages 5 and under I like Citrus Lane (around $25/month).

I've tried some of the others listed as well, it really depends what you are into :)

The tshirt was really cute this month! I laughed when I pulled it out of the box. I also enjoyed the Loot Crate exclusive comic and then the book. This was my first month getting it and I was very happy and impressed.

I think I may try this for dd and ds.

Can anyone please recommend what I may want fir a dd-21 that is away at college and into fashion, makeup and enjoys good cheese lol

My ds-16 is into baseball and sometimes plays videos but is busy during the school year to play as much as he would like like.

Im very interested. Thank you.

For anyone interested in makeup, I'd recommend Ipsy. Let me tell you the downsides first, though. The quality of the samples is inconsistent -- sometimes you get great stuff, other times it's a month of junk. Also, if you already have a huge makeup collection, you will often receive a lot of stuff that you already have (and possibles in a better quality too!) However, for $10, it's a fun treat to get a bag of little surprises.

Birchbox was more disappointing for me. Too often the sample sizes were so small (like single-use foil packets that you'd get in a magazine or the mail) that I didn't get to really try the product, and I felt ripped off for spending $10 for tiny, crappy samples. PopSugar is fun, but for $40 a month, I ended up dropping it and spending $50 to $80 every other month on some things I really wanted, as opposed to grab bag of stuff I might like but might not love. Julep wasn't great either -- for $20, I could get buy 2 get 1 opi colors at ulta.
