Hello everyone!

For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness.

Hi again everyone.

Thanks for the warm welcome (on the Aug thread) :)

I excited to do my last run for week 3 tonight (C25K). The 1/2 marathon still feels a million miles away but I'm slowly moving in the right direction.

I'm looking forward to following along with everyone's training this month.

Hey, I remember this place! Looks great!

So, what's everyone been up to?

Well, since you ask..."I'm leaving on a jet plane" for Disneyland in the morning. I have done the training and now it's time for fun.
Time to enjoy and then in a few weeks I'll start it all again for the Princess Half.

Hope everyone has a great month...the weather already seems to be better for outdoor training.

Sometimes the best training comes in the most surprising way. I say this because today was my first day back out after surgery. I figured I would take it easy and go with a friend to a charity walk. Talk about a humbling experience. There is nothing like spending the morning walking with children who have beaten cancer as well as the parents/family members of those children who lost their battle.

A big thanks to my friends for including me in on this event. It was a great way to get back up and moving.

Have a great holiday weekend!

Susan

What a gorgeous day. Started my run at 54 degrees. Awesome. Today was 11 miles. DGF met me with water at the turnaround. Fuel, Gu at miles 4 and 9, seemed right. At the end my legs were tired, but I felt good. Some soreness in the backs of my thighs tonight. During the run my knees ached on some downhills, but no joint pain post-run.

Susan - what a great return! Things snap into perspective.

Haven't been here in forever but really love the support one finds here. So I am hoping to come back and be around a bit more.

Since the Disney Half in '09 (when I found WISH) I have done one other Half and a few 5Ks and a 10K. I have the Tufts 10K in Boston coming up in a month or so and just have been so inconsistant with training this summer. I really need to get my act together and get out there. Hoping that reading here will be a nice motivator to get moving!

Allyson

PS I wore my WISH shirt at my last Half in May and got quite a few comments, everyone just loves the motto!

Ronda- what a beautiful run you had! I waited too long (for DH to get outta bed - lol) & boy was that sun beating down by the time I got out. I'm inspired to get out earlier tomorrow for that cool weather. Thanks!

Allyson- welcome back! This is really a great place for inspiration!

It was a beautiful day to get out here and put in some steps. That's what happened. Glad that everyone is getting out in it.

Yup, got out this morning and the weather is SO much nicer! Crisp and cool in the morning, great running weather.

I have been so inconsistant this summer so I'm really taking it slow getting back into it. I ran Saturday and today, just a mile and a quarter and will start to gradually increase it. I could have gone further but just wanted to take baby steps and ease back into it. There is a 5K in 2 weeks here in town, heck it starts on my street, can't get much more convenient!, that I may do and the 10K is Oct 11th.

Hope everyone had a great day!

Hi everyone! Did a 10 miler on Saturday and a 5 miler on Sunday and then ran 5 miles with a friend on Monday. I guess this would be week one for marathon training. Yay! Does anyone have experience with Hal Higdon's plans? I'm not sure if I should follow the novice or intermediate plan.

I've done several half races and two 30K races this year so I've made my way up to the 18 mile mark. I've been told that the intermediate plan is difficult because it has a lot of mileage on it. My goal in January is just to finish but still would like to do so in a decent time. But at the same time, I'm worried about overtraining and then injuring myself.

Any thoughts? TIA :)

Hi All!

Hope everyone had a great long holiday weekend :)

Had a bit cooler temps here, figured I'd have great runs. Figured wrong! My head thought we should knock out my miles easily with the cooler temps. Instead someone poured cement in my shoes! Or at least it felt like it. Though I did run my 3 miler over the weekend but decided to slow it up and do intervals for the 10 miler. I think I was a bit dehydrated and again my head said I should be faster but my legs disagreed.

The holiday has kinda screwed up my training week since the gym was closed on Monday. So it will be a short gym night hopefully followed with a short run. Then tomorrow it's back on track :thumbsup2

Short work week!!! YAY!

Hi everyone,

Glad to hear a lot of people got to take advantage of the great weather this weekend. I'm working on week 4 of C25k. I'm making it through the intervals but still working hard to get the 1/2 mile ones done. Deffinetly making progress but it is slow and painful!

My husband is using Higdon's Novice 2 plan. It's more mileage than Novice 1, but less than the Intermediate. He ran WDW marathon last year as his first marathon using Novice 1, and is running it again in January for a PR, using Novice 2. Here's the link:

Good luck!

Susan - That's awesome that you got such motivation your first time back! When I have a bad run, I alwas remind myself that there are so many who would give anythign for one of my bad days.

Ronda - COngrats on teh great run!

Alllyson - Welcome back! Good to se eyou! I agree on teh shirts. I miss mine when I race w/o it.

Lily -Yay for great steps!

Vicky - Higdon seems quite hard compared to MfM. When in doubt, I would go with teh lesser plan, but I am all for minimal training for minimal injury risk. (OK and for uliitimate laziness. ;) )

Diane - You know what to do with a stonker. Shake it off! If it helps, I was in teh same boat. OK, so my cooler weather included high winds adn mist/rain and I was still sore from core... STill, I thought I'd see some speed and was disappointed. I know how you feel!

lolakat - It's hard getting those interval up! Stick with it! I have a friend who kept repeating weeks until she was happy with herself. From what I've heard from otehrs, it 's not an easy program. Great job sticking with it!

Had a lousy 6 miles Saturday but didn't use the yucky weather as an excuse to turn back early. We'll call that a mini victory. ;)

::yes:: :cheer2:

Carrie... yes they are mini victories. Even if they are stonkers LOL

I'm trying to leave the land of the stonkers. I did hit the gym last night and did my usual Monday workout. Decided to go home and give my running buddy some time and ended up being dragged for 3 miles. That dog needs to learn that the 1st mile must be run at a slower pace! I swear the neighbors think I'm taking up cement surfing flying behind her during that 1st mile. By mile 3 they're all "oh poor puppy looks tired" tired my tushie and sore legs! Mile 3 is my revenge for Mile 1 *evil laugh* ok, not really ... well maybe a little :lmao: Today I'm tired. Possibly some to do with the icky chilly temps.

Back to the gym tonight for maybe a lighter workout, more just so I stay in the routine than anything else.

If anything, I get in speed training with the pup :thumbsup2 Oh and those squirrels last night ... grrr. they were lining the sidewalk taunting! so much fun putting on the brakes. Picture the Flintstones mode of stopping as I tried to stop the 80 lb brat from taking me face first after the squirrels. Gym, definitely the gym tonight :upsidedow

Happy Wednesday!

Diane Reading about you running with your dog captures every reason why I never run with mine--unless I want to do the canine version of a Galloway mile--run 10 miles an hour for 150 ft/stop and scratch/run 12 miles an hour for 100 ft/stop and bark at other dog, etc, etc......repeat til complete.

Hello to everyone else! I enjoyed my Disneyland run, and now it's the final 6 weeks of training for the Free Press Marathon. While I'm ready for somewhat cooler weather, today has been a bit of a shock to the system--only in the 60's.

Maura - LOL Thankfully "K" really isn't that bad, if I were to run after dark then the squirrel issue wouldn't be a problem. Thankfully she doesn't stop to sniff at everything which my smaller dog would, the little one is totally a leisure pace companion. "K" is all about the run unless a squirrel or bunny tries to dart by or dare be within sight of the sidewalk. She only has really 1 spot at the beginning she will sometimes whip back to sniff. There is 1 dog a bit in that sometimes is out at the fence and she will come to a complete stop to look at the barking dog. A quick reminder she is to run with me and she's off and happy.

The problem of her pace would be better if she didn't go 2 days in between or in Tuesday's case, left home while DH went for a walk and I was still at the gym. So she was already spinning in circles before she even hit the door

When she gets to run with me more regularly she is more calm, sort of LOL She keeps me running and entertains me and with her I have to pay attention to traffic differently, watch things and her so the time/miles seem to fly by faster with her. I now can't imagine not having her to run with.

Oh and Brrr! I wore a light sweater to work today! We were all bundled in my office  Going to be a chilly weekend, good for miles though :thumbsup2 Planning on hitting the park tomorrow :cool1: A nice change of scenery is in order :)

I'm so jealous of everyone else's cooler weather! Still in the 90's here, although I do feel a hint of fall in the air and I'll take it-- even if it might be wishful thinking!

Diane-- the description of your run with your buddy made me lol! Our lab is at the vet right now recuperating from achilles tendon surgery, so maybe once her rehab is underway I can try to integrate her into some of my walks for starters. I would love to eventually run with her! But she's more than a bit crazy-- DH thinks she has the doggie version of ADHD. :goodvibes

Happy training, everyone!
