Hi all,
Where can I find the famous "Monte Cristo" sandwiches at Disneyworld? I've had one at the Blue Bayou in Disneyland, but I understand there is no counterpart in Disneyworld. I have also heard of a restaurant in MK that once served Monte Cristos, but have removed it from their menu!
Please help, I really want to show my girlfriend the "cross between a sandwich and a jelly donut!" Thanks so much in advance!

going to WDW for the first time 7-4 through 7-10!

I read that they serve them at Columbia Harbor House in MK. I'm not sure if that info is still accurate though, I can't remember which guidebook it was that I read it in, but it had been printed a couple years ago. Good luck with your search!

This is one of my all time favorite sandwiches that you can never find! I was at Columbia Harbor House in April and they did not have them...trust me..I would know! LOL
If you find out who has them...please let me know!!!!

Thanks!

Yes, Columbia Harbour House USED to have Monte Cristo sandwiches, but they haven't had them in years. Wish they would bring them back.

Many years ago they were also served at the Town Square Cafe (now known as Tony's). I think they were also served somewhere in the marketplace or perhaps it was Lake Buena Vista Club.

It's not in Disney, but you can get them at Bennigans on 535 near Disney. A bit down the rd from Crossroads.

I also had one a few years ago at Jungle Jims ( I think thats the name) at the crossroads. This was at lunchtime. It was very good.

I came across this recipe today and thought I'd post it for you - looks like you're not going to get the Monte Cristo at WDW, but maybe you can make one at home!

This is the famous Monte Cristo sandwich recipe from the Blue Bayou restaurant in New Orleans Square at Disneyland.

Monte Cristo Sandwich

Monte Cristo Sandwich is served with currant jelly sauce. First prepare this, then make the batter. While it is chilling, put together the sandwiches. When the sandwiches are fried, the complete service is ready.

Currant Jelly Sauce
2/3 c. currant jelly
1 TB water
1 TB half and half
Combine jelly, water and half and half in blender and mix until smooth. Makes about 3/4 cup.

Batter
2/3 c. water
1 small egg
1/2 t. salt
1/8 t. white pepper
few drops yellow food coloring
2/3 c. all-purpose flour
1 3/4 t. baking powder
Place water, egg, salt, pepper and food coloring in a bowl and using an electric mixer, mix well at low speed. Add flour and baking powder and mix until batter is smooth. Chill. Makes enough for 4 sandwiches.

Sandwiches
8 slices white bread
4 slices turkey (1 oz. each)
4 slices swiss cheese
4 slices Pullman ham
Make 4 sandwiches, putting cheese between ham and turkey. Cut into fourths and put a toothpick through each quarter.
Final Preparation:
soybean or vegetable oil for frying
Confectioners' sugar
currant jelly sauce
Heat about 6-inches of oil to 340F in a fryer. Dip sandwiches in batter to cover all surfaces. Deep fry sandwiches until golden brown, turning as needed. Remove from oil, take out toothpicks, sprinkle sandwiches with confectioners' sugar. Serve with currant jelly sauce.

I've never had them with the current jelly sauce. Everytime I've had them (in New England) They were served with maple syrup! Yum Yum!!
Thanks for the recipe!!

Yes, Benningans would have them. Back a long time ago, I waitressed at Bennigan's. (Not at that location)

They still have that item on the menu.

Having ingested many, many of these throughout my life, I was always looking for an easier way to have them without actually making the trek over to the Blue Bayou. I was told that the Katella Deli (in Anaheim also) had the same thing. I went and tried it--alas, a pale imitation.

I have come to the conclusion that, if there is a duplicate of that particular item, I have not found it yet....

My 13 yo DD had her first Monte Cristo at Bennigan's recently (in Raleigh, NC). She loved it. If they had them at WDW, we'd be in trouble;)

My family really enjoyed our trip to DL several yrs. ago & one of the dining high points was the Monte Cristo sandwich & the whole dining atmosphere at Blue Bayou. In fact, whenever anyone asks about DL (I'm considered the Disney "go-to" person in my office) I suggest Blue Bayou & the Monte Christo. WDW should listen to our cries! We want the Monte Cristo - you can serve it at the Mexico pavillion to simulate the atmosphere. (OK there are a few kinks in my plan, but I'm only a "go-to", not an imagineer)
